Aspen, colo. – An increasing number of fire services Throughout the country, turn to artificial intelligence to help detect and respond to forest fires faster.
In Aspen, in Colorado, fire managers say that the risk of forest fire has increased from seasonal concern to a threat all year round. To take up this challenge, they use cameras powered by AI to detect smoke – sometimes even before the calls come.
Arvind Satyam is the co-founder and sales manager of Pano Ai.
“They get a complete 360 -degree image of the landscape,” said Satyam.
High in the mountains, rotating cameras score the land for smoke. If the system detects a potential fire, the alert is examined by a human team. Verified alerts are then sent to Aspen Fire by SMS or E-mail, as well as the exact location, said Satyam.
“We direct a smoke detection algorithm,” said Satyam. “So, looking at the imagery to determine is whether smoke smoke or not.”

Satyam said that devices can also give satellite views on the ground and superimpose an image of time to understand the wind speed and relative humidity.
Aspen Fire was the first department of the United States to adopt technology four years ago when Risk of growing forest I started to raise insurance costs in the region, said the leaders of Pano AI and the heads of the ASPEN fire service.
“This gives us this instant intelligence and not, you know, hoping that we bring someone there quickly,” said Jake Andersen, Deputy Operations Manager of Aspen Fire.
Aspen officials aim to have crews on the scene within five minutes – something which, they believe, would be almost impossible without precise location data. Firefighters say their firefighters can also access the AI pano Card on their phones While responding to calls. The system can follow thermal signatures at night and monitor the hot spots for days after a fire.

Aspen firefighters, Rick Balentine, said the device is particularly helping with the land in Aspen. Balentine said that a recent example of when they used Pano Ai was for the fire prescribed by Aspen of Sunnyside. The prescribed fire of 900 acres Sunnyside was ignited in April of this year on the southern face of Red Mountain, fire officials said.

The system is now used in 10 states: Colorado, California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Texas, Wyoming, Utah, Arizona and Montana. Several firefighters can share alerts in these regions and coordinate response efforts.
