Google Cloud outage brings down a lot of the internet


Large expanses of the Internet fell on Thursday, affecting a range of services, from the Cloudflare global cloud platform to popular applications like Spotify. It seems that a Google Cloud failure is the source of these other service disturbances.

Google Cloud said he had started investigating service problems affecting his customers at 11:46 pm. At 2:23 pm PT, the company said it had implemented attenuations and expects its services to be operational within the hour.

“We are currently investigating a disturbance of services to certain Google Cloud services,” said Google Cloud Devon Smiley spokesperson in a Techcrunch email.

At 11:19 pm, Cloudflare also said that he was investigating the disturbances of the services affecting his customers, according to his status page. At 12:12 p.m., Cloudflare said he was starting to see his services recovering after investigating the problem.

“This is a Google Cloud failure,” said Cloudflare spokesperson Ripley Park in a Techcrunch email. “A limited number of services at Cloudflare use Google Cloud and have been affected. We expect them to come back shortly. The basic cloudflare services have not been affected.”

An AWS spokesperson told Techcrunch that they knew no service disturbance on Thursday, and Microsoft Azure had not reported any failure on their official chains.

Techcrunch has contacted other cloud suppliers and companies mentioned for additional comments, but we have not heard of the publication.

As a rule, disturbances in services of this nature are resolved in a few hours. These breakdowns seemed to start around 11 a.m. on PT Thursday, disturbing the busy working day for millions of people in the United States, it seems likely that the services are starting to return online relatively shortly.
