A black box was found on the site of the Air India airplane accident in Ahmedabad, the Minister of Civil Aviation of India said on Friday.
The flight data recorder was recovered within 28 hours by the India Airplane Accidents Office (AAIB), confirmed Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu.
Every 242 people except one from the flight to London died when she crashed in a residential area less than 60 seconds after takeoff on Thursday. An official told the BBC that at least eight people on the ground were also killed.
“THE [recovery of the black box] Mark an important step forward in the investigation “and” will considerably help the investigation “on the disaster, said Kinjarapu.
The planes generally carry two black boxes – small but resistant electronic data recorders.
The flight data is recorded, such as altitude and speed. The other recordings sound from the cockpit, so that the investigators can hear what the pilots say and listen to unusual noises.
Aaib is investigating the cause of the accident, helped by teams from the United States and the United Kingdom. Boeing Managing Director Kelly Ortberg said the company supported the investigation.
Air India said there were 169 Indian nationals, 53 British, seven Portuguese and a Canadian on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner plane when he crashed for a few moments after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai International Ahmedabad (08:09 GMT).
He was to land at Gatwick Airport in London at 6:25 pm BST.
Friday, the wreckage was still dispersed on the accident site, including the blackened wing of the plane, with large pieces of the plane stuck in buildings.
The investigators arrived on the scene and the crowds were far from the wreckage.
A doctor told the BBC that he counted on the DNA of parents to identify the victims. A Post-Mortem Salle Police official told the BBC that the remains of six people had been given to families so far, because their loved ones were able to identify them according to the facial characteristics.
The only survivor of the accident, the British national Vishwashkumar Ramesh, who was at the 11a headquarters on the flight, is still recovered in the hospital.
“I still can’t believe how I got out alive,” He told the state diffuser of India DD News THURSDAY.
“At the beginning, I thought I was going to die. I managed to open my eyes, I detached my seat belt and tried to leave the plane.”
Mr. Ramesh, 40, who suffered burns on his left hand, said that he had seen the plane crew and that his passengers will die before his eyes.
Meanwhile, desperate families are still waiting for news from their loved ones.
Imotiaz Ali, whose brother Javed and his family were on the flightsaid that until he sees his brother’s body, he will not believe that he is dead.
“If I become sad and start crying, I will be uncontrollable,” he told the BBC.
“No one can stop me … My heart could break out.”
The plane crashed in a residential area called Meghani Nagar and, even if it had just taken off, the impact was serious. The wreckage spread over 200 m (656 feet), according to the stakeholders.
We still don’t know exactly how many people have been killed on the ground, but the BBC has been informed that at least eight people, who were not on the plane, died.
Dr. Minakshi Parikh, the dean of the BJ Medical College and the civil hospital, said that four of their students had died while the plane collapsed in the buildings on the campus.
“There were also four parents of our doctors who were on campus when the plane crashed – they were also killed,” said Dr. Parikh.
“We only count on DNA correspondence to identify them and this is something where we simply cannot rush or allow us errors.
“We work with sincerity. We want parents to understand and are a little patient. We want to put back [the bodies] as soon as possible.”
Friday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spent about 20 minutes on the plane accident site.
He did not speak to journalists thereafter, but a video published on his YouTube channel showed him for walking on the site and inspecting the debris.
Modi has also visited the location of a now viral image which shows the tail of the crushed aircraft housed in a building.
Earlier Friday, the CEO of Air India, Campbell Wilson, also visited the accident site, later describing the visit as “deeply moving”.
According to data from the follow-up website, Flightradar24, the Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 had finished more than 700 flights of the year preceding the disaster on Thursday.
The Air India plane was 11 years old and its most common roads included flights between Mumbai and Dubai, as well as the capital New Delhi and European destinations such as Milan, Paris and Amsterdam.
The plane had operated 25 Ahmedabad flights in London Gatwick in the past two years.
