A dentist working in Mississauga, Ontario, was one of those who died aboard the Air India flight, when he crashed shortly after takeoff in the Indian city of Ahmedabad on Thursday.
A friend of the family of Dr. Nirali Patel confirmed to Global News that she was aboard the failure of the flight towards India in London, England, who led to the death of at least 240 people.
Patel worked as a dentist recorded in Mississauga and lived in Etobicoke with her husband, who is also in dentistry, and their young child.
His family friend, Don Patel, who knew her thanks to volunteer work in the Toronto region, said that the Nirali family was in shock.
“For her husband, it was really shocking and devastating news,” he said, adding that she was heading for India for social visits with friends and family and planned to come back soon.
Don said that the Nirali family had been transported by plane to India as soon as the news came.
He said that the family was grateful for the support he had received, including the Prime Minister, but wanted privacy.
Nirali graduated from a dental college in India before moving to Canada, according to a biography published on the website of its clinic, The Heritage Dental Center.

He was a hardworking person who thought they were giving back to the community and volunteered in a free dental camp each year, the page said.
“The feeling that my work has made a difference in someone’s life illuminates my day,” said Nirali saying why she became a dentist.
The news of the accident occurred Thursday morning, when a Boeing 787 crashed shortly after takeoff, killing at least 240 people on board and on the ground.
Only one person has survived the aviation disaster, which the videos show an ardent explosion.
Prime Minister Doug Ford shared a declaration after the tragedy and offered his condolences to the family.
“I am saddened to learn that a Canadian from Mississauga, Ontario, was one of the people lost in the tragic India air accident near Ahmedabad,” he wrote on social networks.
“On behalf of the inhabitants of Ontario, I present my deepest condolences to families and their relatives of each victim. We keep you in our thoughts during this difficult period. ”
Prime Minister Mark Carney also expressed his shock and sadness in the face of the accident.
“Devastated to learn the crash of an India Air India airplane in Ahmedabad,” wrote Carney on X. “Canada transport managers are in close contact with counterparts and I receive regular updates as the response to this tragedy takes place.”
His Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, called the events “heartbreaking beyond words”.
“During this sad hour, my thoughts are with all those affected,” he said in an article on social networks.
The flight carried 169 Indians, 53 British and seven Portuguese nationals in addition to the Canadian alone, according to Air India. The plane crashed five minutes after takeoff at 1:38 p.m. local time.
