Strange New Worlds’ third season falls short of its second

This is an overview without spoiler of the first five episodes of season three.

Star Trek: Strange new worlds ended its second season with the strongest race of any trek in the streaming era. The show was made with such confidence in all departments if there were faults, you were not interested in looking for them. Since then, he has gone from best modern trek, to be the only Modern trek. Unfortunately, for the moment, he must be the standard carrier of the show, he has become significantly lower and less coherent.

Its format, with autonomous adventures mixed with a serialized drama, means that it can offer something new each week. Think of the first season, when “Memento Mori”, a tense of a tense action with the Gorn, was immediately followed by “Spock Amock”, a romantic comedy in the exchange of bodies. Strange new worlds is the first trek for a long time to realize that the public does not only want an incessant Slog of Grimdark with severe and angry face. But, as much as these things are Snw The greatest force is a delicate balance to make sure that the series does not stop too far in both directions. And, it hurts me to say that, the show spends the first five episodes of its third season too far in the two directions (although, fortunately, not at the same time). No details, but an episode, I am sure, was on the same list of wishes of white writers as the musical episode last season. Which was clearly designed as a chance for everyone to get out of their usual roles and have fun flat. Because the episode can never go beyond the feeling that it is too delighted with its own stupidity to function properly.

At the other end of the ladder, we obtain sprints to the Grimdark which lies the eyes which destroyed these other series. Of course, the series has already gone to dark places, but previously with more substantive feeling, rather than simply opting for the visceral gore. A cynic could suggest that, as the other Paramount trek projects ended, the deductible of franchise Alex Kurtzman – which pushed the deductible in “more grumpy” territory each time it can – has had more time to pass in the Snw Room of writers.

Just as I appreciated the more learned elements of the series, the continuous intrigues occupy an ever greater part of the execution time of each episode so far. Consequently, the history of the week obtains less service, which makes them lower and less consistent. But Strange new worlds I cannot solve all economic problems with the streaming model alone. I hope that, as in its first season, the weakest episodes are all in its half before to soften us for the quality moments that followed towards its conclusion.

Aside: shortly before the publication, Paramount announced Strange new worlds would end in its fifth season, which would be reduced by ten episodes to six. It is not surprising – since the lower decks equally brilliant were also chopped after having crossed the same stage – but it is disappointing.
