According to Oxfam, nearly 150,000 people in the Netherlands asked the government to do more against the war in Gaza.
Tens of thousands of pro-Palestine demonstrators gathered in the Netherlands to oppose 20 month war.
On Saturday, a huge crowd of people walked in the streets of The Hague for the second time in four weeks to the International Court of Justice.
Rights defense groups, which were among the organizers of the rally, including Amnesty International and Oxfam, said that the demonstration was aimed at creating a symbolic “red line” which, according to the government, has failed to stop the War of Israel against Gaza and its Palestinian population.
Protesters sang, delivered speeches and have exceeded the courthouse, which hears a case by South Africa Accusing Israel of having committed a genocide during his war against the besieged enclave.
Michiel Serves, director of Oxfam Novib, said that “more than 150,000 people” attended the demonstration calling for “concrete sanctions to stop the genocide in Gaza”.
Reporting Hague, the Pas de Vaessen of Al Jazeera said that the great participation rate was proof that more people in the Netherlands rejected their government support in Israel.
“While there is much frustration about the Lack of Action, Protesters Here Say the Focus Should Remain on the Continuing Genocide in Gaza Despite Israel’s Efforts to Distract attention,” Vaessen Said, Adding that protests also Called for Israel to Stop Its Attacks on Iran.
Prime Minister Dick Schoof said the thousands of “unprecedented” people in The Hague had raised their voice with “concerns, anger and frustration”.
“The Netherlands remain determined to stop violence and end the humanitarian blockade. We are constantly examining how we can be more effective with our efforts, both in front and in the background, to improve the situation on the ground,” wrote Schoof on X.
“To all these people in The Hague, I say:” We see you and we hear you. ” Our goal is ultimately the same: to finish suffering in Gaza as soon as possible, “he added.
Salih El Saddy, a Protestant doctor, told Al Jazeera that as a doctor, it is “very painful to watch” the scenes of Gaza.
Pro-Palestine demonstrations also took place in Belgium, Turkiye, Brazil and Greece, all calling for an immediate end to the war in Gaza.
