Instagram users complain of mass bans, pointing finger at AI

Instagram users complain for weeks of a significant increase in the accounts wrongly or in suspension. Many suspect, without direct evidence, that problems may have to do with the use of AI automation.

Reached to comment, Meta has so far not offered a report on the record.

According to an increasing number of publications on social networks, including on sites like Reddit and X, Instagram users report that their accounts were prohibited even if they had not violated the conditions of use of the company or other policies. In addition, when they have submitted an appeal to have their account examined, some said they had received no response.

Others pointed out that they had no other way to directly contact a member of the Meta support team, leaving them to lose for what to do afterwards.

“I have already submitted several calls, downloaded my username and tried to contact Meta via all the official channels, but I was completely ignored. I feel like I’m shouting in a void,” wrote A Reddit user (U / Dyrovice) on the fact that his personal Instagram account is prohibited.

(We must note that Meta offers Checked account subscriptions to creators and companies that offer priority access to customer service.)

Instagram Reddit community The main articles are almost entirely focused on the prohibition wave and have been for weeks. On X, users are Flood Instagram’s responses With pleadings so that the company does something for account suspensions or, at the very least, recognize the problem publicly. A change.org petition About prohibitions, there are now more than 4,000 signatures.

The situation has become so tense that some are now threaten a collective appeal Against Meta on prohibitions.

Of course, large Internet companies will inevitably meet a certain number of false positives because of their dependence on automated moderation systems, which sometimes make mistakes. However, an excessive number of prohibitions is something that has become a more recent objective – and a number where many immediately suspect AI can be at fault.

For example, Pinterest earlier this year was faced with a similar problem with mass prohibitions, which saw the users complaining that their actions and positions had not violated the policies of the company. A group of users also had threat legal action on prohibitions at the time. Pinterest in May finally admitted that mass prohibitions were an error caused by an “internal error”, but that this would not identify the exact cause. The company said, however, that the error was not due to the moderation of the AI.

In the case of Instagram, problems do not only affect the personal use of the application but also the means of subsistence of people, because companies have been taken in mass prohibitions.

“It’s my livelihood, my full-time work. I count strongly on Instagram for the tracks ”, wrote a Reddit user (U / Paigejust) of their suspension.

“This ban directly affected my business and all the hard work and the brand I spent countless hours flowing in my business, my gymnasium and my students,” said a gymnasium owner on Reddit (U / Courtshaw) common.

Without access to the internal data of the company, it is difficult from the outside to say whether the recent prohibitions represent an increase in the number of typical or not fake positive. To date, Meta has not publicly recognized the question.

In addition, some of the affected Instagram users have indicated that they were falsely prohibited for serious offenses, including ESC (sexual exploitation of children). They noted Whether it is a career and reputation accusation, which makes them very concerned.
