Tim Seifert treats Shaheen Afridi like a schoolboy, smashes 4 sixes in an over in 2nd T20I
New Zealand opener Tim Seifert launched an onslaught against Pakistan pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi in the second T20I of the five-match series between the two teams. Tim Seifert smashed Shaheen Afridi for 26 runs in one over during the match at the University Oval in Dunedin on Tuesday, March 18.
New Zealand skipper Michael Bracewell won the toss and opted to bowl first. The home team bowlers restricted the Salman Agha-led team to 135 runs in the allotted 15 overs of the rain-curtailed game. Shaheen also contributed with crucial runs with the bat. The southpaw scored 22 off 14 balls at the end.
Shaheen Afridi troubled Tim Seifert with his bowling during the first over. He didn’t concede a single run in his first over. However, Seifert’s carnage came during the third over. The right-handed batter began the over with back-to-back sixes. Shaheen conceded just two runs off the next two deliveries.
However, the 30-year-old batter smashed another six over deep mid-wicket off the penultimate ball of the over. He finished the over with another six, milking 26 runs off Afridi. The Black Caps scored 50 runs inside the first three overs despite conceding a maiden in the first over during the run chase.

Mohammad Ali provided the first breakthrough for his team by dismissing Tim Seifert, who scored 45 runs off 22 balls, including three boundaries and five sixes. Shaheen Afridi took an easy catch to remove Seifert. Left-arm pacer Jahandad Khan picked up the wicket of Finn Allen, who scored 38 runs off 16 balls.
Allen smashed one boundary and five sixes during his time at the crease. Pakistan picked up quick wickets in the middle overs, reducing New Zealand to 97/4. However, the late wickets didn’t help Pakistan secure the victory. The home team, led by Bracewell won by five wickets with more than 10 balls to spare.
Pakistan suffered an early setback after being sent in to bat. They lost opener Hasan Nawaz for a duck for the second time in the series. They were struggling at 19-2 in the fourth over before skipper Salman Agha came to the crease. Salman helped the team recover with 46 off 28, hitting four fours and three sixes.
Shadab Khan played an aggressive knock of 26 off 14 balls in the middle order, while Shaheen Shah Afridi remained unbeaten on 22 off 14.
For New Zealand, four bowlers picked up two wickets each. Ben Sears and Jimmy Neesham, who were recalled in place of Tim Robinson and Kyle Jamieson, also made an impact. Pakistan made one change, bringing in seamer Haris Rauf in place of leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed.
