Tencent bets WeChat and gaming will help it win Europe cloud business


The Chinese technology company Tencent is a giant of the game and the parent company of WeChat, the application of omnipresent social messaging in China.

Tence spent years to evolve towards a giant of games and social media in China and, in doing so, has accumulated its Cloud Computing capacities.

The technology company is now looking to bring this expertise in Europe while it increases the expansion of its cloud activities abroad, Téncent’s Cloud Group CEO.

“We have strengths and skills in very specific technological fields, as well as in the vertical industry sectors,” said Tong in an interview last week. “These are very unique technological capacities that have been developed for many years [and] Started from our products in China. “”

But the Chinese company hopes to focus on specific areas where it has accumulated capacities to differentiate itself from rivals.

WeChat is often considered the pioneer of super applications, a term that refers to an application with several functions, such as messaging and payments.

The Chinese company is also betting on European companies opting for several cloud suppliers for services, instead of counting on one or two of the major players.

Cloud Computing companies have emphasized the sale of artificial intelligence tools in order to increase income and differentiate their offers from competitors.

Tencent has built its own fundamental model of artificial intelligence in China called Hanyuan. But he also uses certain models created by the Chinese company Deepseek in its products.

Tong said that Tencent would adopt a similar approach in Europe with regard to AI, potentially offering products built on European models.

“Our objective would be to provide tools that would work with different foundation models and, ultimately, it is the customer’s decision that the model works best for them,” Tong at CNBC told.

“So, I think that in the end, we would always go to our customers, that we find the problems they wanted to solve, provide them with tools so that they can accomplish what they need and achieve the profitability that we can offer.”
