On “The Surreal Life,” Hanks opened up about hitting “rock bottom” with viewers. According to previous reports, the musician recalled a moment “two years ago” when he was “coming off a three-day coke binge” in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Hanks told his co-stars that he hadn’t eaten, slept, or drank water during that time, which caused him to lose “27 pounds in three days.”

“It’s not pretty. I went straight from Vegas, checked myself into rehab… again,” he said.

“Here I am, 31 years old, broke, strung out, sucked up, just skinny, just at rock bottom,” he added. “I just knew, man, if I don’t change my life in a drastic way, either I’m not even going to be around or something bad, so bad, is going to happen that my life might as well be over.”

In early January 2025, several neighborhoods near Malibu, California, were consumed by horrifying wildfires. According to reports, several of the fire hydrants in the Pacific Palisades had run out of water, causing even more complications for first responders.

“The firefighters are there (in the neighborhood), and there’s nothing they can do — we’ve got neighborhoods burning, homes burning, and businesses burning. … It should never happen,” Los Angeles developer Rick Caruso said.

Several celebrities, including Tyra Banks, Paris Hiltonand Tina Knowles, lost their homes and businesses to the blaze.

As the fires continued to spread, Hanks posted an emotional message to his Instagram Stories, revealing that the neighborhood he was raised in was “burning to the ground.” He also asked people to send him positive thoughts.

“Pray for the Palisades,” he wrote.

According to a report from Page Six, Tom Hanks’ $26 million home, which was purchased in 2010, “narrowly avoided the flames.”
