Leeds eyeing busy summer transfer window

Despite dropping points over the weekend, the Whites remain top of the Championship table and in pole position to return to the Premier League next season. Leeds United could look towards their impressive academy assets to potentially replace Manor Solomon.

Signing a new striker is very high on the list heading into the summer, with Patrick Bamford’s time at the club possibly coming to an end. Roma striker Tammy Abraham is an option that has been mentioned a few times, and it has now been reported that the Italian side are looking to sell the player in the summer and want to get between £16-21 million for his services. This is a deal that Leeds will only be able to complete if they are back in the top flight.

Meanwhile, the Yorkshire side have been handed a transfer boost as former midfielder Kalvin Phillips is pushing for a return to Elland Road in the summer. A recent report from TEAMtalk revealed that Leeds already have a verbal agreement with the player, and Man City are aware of their interest and wouldn’t be opposed to a sale as long as they get around £20 million.

£60k-p/w Firpo looks set to leave Leeds with clubs in talks

But while the Whites eye reinforcements, they may have to deal with losing a key player come the end of the campaign, as according to TEAMtalk, Leeds’ Junior Firpo is in talks with three clubs over a free transferas he looks increasingly likely to leave.

The report states that Firpo, whose contract expires at the end of the season, has failed to agree new terms with the Whites, and as a result, he is expected to leave in the summer. Firpo has recently changed his agency, and already they have started working on a potential transfer, with three teams from La Liga, one being former club Real Betis, already making proposals to sign the defender on a free transfer.

The 28-year-old, who earns £60,000 a week at Elland Road, has performed well for Leeds this season, starting 24 of the 25 league games he has played, and he is a player whom Farke has admitted he “loves”. “I love Firpo, happy with him, but let’s not get too carried away. We don’t have to praise individuals today. Byram has not lost one game in my starting XI; he is chipping in with team spirit and is reliable.”

Firpo, who has also been dubbed a “leader” by Farke, joined Leeds from Barcelona in July 2021 for a fee worth £13 million. Should he leave on a free at the end of the season, it would be a disappointment for the Whites, as they take a loss on a defender who has done rather well this season.
