Born in Cazenovia, New York, September 21, 1969, Burrell fell in love with cooking early, inspired by the influence of his mother’s homemade meals and TV legend Julia Child.
He first earned an English degree in the Canisius College before enrolling at the American Culinary Institute, from which he graduated in 1996.
His deep passion to the Italian cuisine took him to the Italian culinary institute of foreigners, where he immersed in the culinary philosophies in the country.
After returning to New York, he worked in the highest level kitchens, including Felidia Lidia Bastianich and Savoy in Soho, where she dominated the Mediterranean flavors.
In the end, he began teaching at the Employment of the Culinary Education Institute before entering the television spotlight.

The food network spectators first met Burrell as a “Iron Chef America” chef where his energy and skills deserved to him the next one.
In 2008, he launched his own Emmy candidate exhibition “Secrets Restaurant Chef”, which ran nine successful seasons.
Burrell also became a support table with the “worst tests of America”, where his interesting mentoring helped culinary beginners find confidence in the kitchen.
He continued his television run with “Chopped”, “Chef wanted”, “Food Network Star” and most recently “House of Knives”, premiered in March 2025.

Burrell married Stuart Claxton on October 16, 2021, in Bumble in 2018.

In addition to his culinary celebrity, Burrell was also known for his charity.
He served at the Dreams Garden of Dreams Foundation Advisory Board, was an Ambassador to the Youth Diabetes Foundation and participated in the City Harvest’s Food Council.
His two cookbooks “Cook Like a Rock Star” and “own kitchen”, both inspire home chefs nationwide.

His husband Stuart Claxton and his son Javier survived Anne Burrell; his mother, Marlene; His sister, Jane; His child, Isabella, Amelia and Nicolas; And his brother, Ben.

Burrell made the final Instagram post four days before his death. In the mail, he shared a picture of himself and Brooklyn’s green woman, Elizabeth Eaton Rosenthal, everyone smiles in their poses.

After Burrell’s death, many of his fans shared their condolences task into the comment section of their last Instagram message.
One person wrote: “The culinary world has lost a bright brilliant star.
