Pope Leo XIV is the threat of AI against humanity a key problem of his inheritance, which questions the technological industry that has spent years courting the Vatican.
The namesake of the new American pope, Leo XIII, defended the rights of factory workers during the golden age, a period from the end of the 1870s to the late 1890s of rapid economic change and extreme inequality of wealth led by corrupt industrial barons.
Addressing a room of cardinals last month, the Pope said that he would count on 2,000 years of social teaching of the Church to “respond to another industrial revolution and innovations in the field of artificial intelligence which pose challenges to human dignity, justice and work,” reports The Wall Street Journal.
In attempts to shape Rome’s dialogue on AI and, by association, influence governments and decision -makers, Google, Microsoft, Cisco and other technology giants have stolen from the Vatican to preach the good word of emerging technologies.
The Vatican has put pressure on an international treaty binding on AI, which most technological CEOs would say that innovation threatens.
