The national intelligence director had previously declared that Iran did not build nuclear weapons

Tulsi Gabbard says that Iran could produce nuclear weapons “in a few weeks”, months after testifying to the Congress that the country did not build them.

The US National Intelligence Director said that her March testimony – in which she said that Iran had a stock of materials but did not build these weapons – had been withdrawn from “dishonest media”.

Her change of position came after Donald Trump said she was “wrong” and information has shown that Iran had “a huge amount of equipment” and could have a nuclear weapon “in a few months”.

Iran has always said that its nuclear program was entirely peaceful and that it had never sought to develop a nuclear weapon.

Trump said on Thursday that he gave Tehran the “maximum” of two weeks to conclude an agreement on his nuclear activities with Washington. He said he would soon decide whether the United States should join Israel’s strikes on Iran.

The disagreement was built within Trump’s “America First” movement on the question of whether the United States should enter the conflict.

On Saturday morning, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that his country was “absolutely ready for a negotiated solution” on their nuclear program, but that Iran “cannot travel negotiations with the United States when our people are under bombing”.

In his article on social networks, Gabbard said that US intelligence has shown that Iran was “to the point that it can produce a nuclear weapon in weeks in months”.

“President Trump has been clear that it cannot happen, and I agree,” she added.

Gabbard shared a video of her full testimony before the congress in March, where she said that US intelligence agencies had concluded that Iran did not build nuclear weapons.

Experts also determined that Iran had not resumed its 2003 suspended nuclear weapons program, she added the clip, even if the country’s enriched uranium stock – a component of these weapons – was at a record level.

In her testimony, she said that Iran’s stock was “unprecedented for a state without nuclear weapons”.

Earlier this month, The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) – The global nuclear guard dog – has expressed concern About uranium stocks enriched with Iran, which can be used to make reactor fuel but also nuclear weapons.

Gabbard’s March’s testimony was already criticized by Trump, who told journalists earlier that he had not concerned about what she said. “

The American president said that he thought that Iran was “very close to having a weapon” and that his country would not allow it to happen.

In 2015, Iran concluded a long -term agreement on its nuclear program with a group of global powers after years of tension on the country’s alleged efforts to develop a nuclear weapon.

Iran had participated in talks with the United States this year during its nuclear program and had to organize another round when Israel launched Iran strikes on June 13, who, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said that “the heart” of Iran’s nuclear program.

“If he is not arrested, Iran could produce a nuclear weapon in a very short time,” said Netanyahu.

Israeli air strikes destroyed Iranian military facilities and military weapons and killed military commanders and nuclear scientists.

The Iranian Ministry of Health said on Saturday that at least 430 people had been killed, while a human rights group, the news agency for human rights activists, made the unofficial assessment of death at 657 on Friday.

Iran retaliated with missile and drone strikes against Israel, killing 25 people, including one who suffered a heart attack.
