The last:
The US Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth said on Sunday that the American military strikes against Iranian nuclear installations had taken months of positioning and that it was an incredible and overwhelming success that he also claimed to have erased the nuclear ambitions of Tehran.
American strikes included 14 bunker-business bombs, more than two dozen Tomahawk missiles and more than 125 military planes, in an US general operation, Dan Caine, was appointed Midnight Operation.
The operation pushes the Middle East to the edge of a new major conflagration in an already ignited region for more than 20 months with wars in Gaza and Lebanon and a dictator overturned in Syria.
“We have devastated the Iranian nuclear program,” Hegseth told journalists in a pentagon briefing in Arlington, Virginia, adding that Iran’s nuclear ambitions were “erased”.
He said that strikes had not targeted Iranian troops or citizens.
“The operation that President Trump planned was daring and it was great, showing the world that American deterrence is back. When this president speaks, the world should listen to.”
A week after the first strikes of Israel on nuclear and military targets across Iran, many ask: what is the next step? While attacks and deadly counterattacks between the two countries continue without yet, Andrew Chang explores what could be in his war with Iran and why his ambitions could go far beyond Iran from developing a nuclear bomb. Tehran accused Washington of having launched “a dangerous war” after President Donald Trump said the United States attacked three key nuclear sites in Iran on Sunday. Trump said the sites were “completely and completely erased”.
Earlier, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Washington “betrayed diplomacy” with military strikes in support of Israel, which was engaged in a nine -day war with Iran to try to destroy its nuclear program.
Now, “the United States has itself launched a dangerous war against Iran,” the ministry said in a long press release.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran reserves its right to resist full force against American military assault and the crimes committed by this rogue regime, and to defend the security and national interests of Iran.”
