Denis Villeneuve, the French Canadian filmmaker of the Oscars, will lead the next James Bond film, announced Amazon MGM Studios.
In a statement published by the studio, Villeneuve says he is an “unconditional fan of James Bond” and intends to “honor the tradition” of the franchise.
Speculation made on the future of films 007 after long -standing bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson left their roles in February.
Villeneuve will also be an executive producer of the new film and has received a global praise for its recent version of the Dune franchise, as well as successes such as Blade Runner 2049 and Arrival.
Amazon has not published details on the next actor to play James Bond in the ad.
Villeneuve recognized the “massive responsibility” to lead the new film and expressed its enthusiasm at the read.
“I grew up watching James Bond Films with my father, from Dr. No with Sean Connery. I am an unconditional fan of Bond. For me, he is a sacred territory,” he said.
“I intend to honor tradition and open the way to many new missions to come.”
He added that he and his producers’ colleagues Amy Pascal and David Heyman are “delighted to bring him [Bond] Back to screen “.
Amazon MGM’s studios, Mike Hopkins, praised Villeneuve as “cinematographic master” and praised his ability to deliver “an immersive narration” for the world public.
“James Bond is in the hands of one of today’s greatest filmmakers and we can’t wait to start the next 007 adventure,” he said.
Pascal and Heyman added that it was always Villeneuve’s dream to make a film Bond and “we are lucky to be in the hands of this extraordinary filmmaker”.
We still don’t know when Bond’s next film will be released while searching for the next actor to play the SPY holder continues.
British actors Aaron Taylor-Johnson and James Norton were precursors, while the name of Irish actor Paul Mescal was also thrown into the mixture.
Villeneuve has taken on importance with a series of critical successes, notably Sicario, prisoners and inventions.
His science fiction thriller 2016 earned him his first Oscar appointment for the staging.
