Last Season’s Flawed Recipe Is Improved With An Emotional Feast

While this review is as spoiler -free as possible, and the new season is already streaming, keep this as a spoiler warning for the “bear” season 4.

The “bear” was a great TV seemingly jumping. The stress of Christopher Storer’s stress on the Chicago sandwich struggles turned into a great dining area, almost immediately with its powerful movies, its electronic editing and an excellent actor. Season 1 was good, season 2 was even better. But sooner or later, I think every great show stumbles. After the first two seasons, the “bear” season 3 felt like he was lost, unmistakable. Perhaps it was intentional – the way to reflect the way the characters felt lost. Intentional or not, it didn’t work – something was missing.

I finally gave the season 3 a positive reviewBut it was the first time I noticed to fight with the exhibition. Although I appreciated some of the most brave formal choices (many people seemed annoyed to season 3 premiers that progressed as one long montage Stocked to a nine -inch nail trackBut I thought it was pretty great), the “bear” season 3 felt like an exhibition that may have given it a jump and popularity to go on. It was like a Storer and his team felt his call to go bigger and stranger when trying to keep things fresh, but had lost a bigger picture of the process. This can again be intentional because losing a bigger picture is a problem that seems to be a problem for the protagonist Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto, which Jeremy Allen White has played with a complete amount of angst.

However, the “bear” season 3 never found a leg, and the series still made strange choices that did not fall. Although there were strong episodes (“Serial star Ayo Edebiri” series “napkins” was a real standard), There were confusing decisions that left a bad taste in the mouth. First of all, most of the season finals were dedicated to focus on herd or Guest star chefs play themselves Instead of conveying the main characters in the exhibition. And then the fact is that season 3 ended with an unnecessary rock exchanger.

Bear season 4 is a great improvement compared to season 3

Fortunately, the “bear” cooked again with season 4. Occasionally, this new season feels like an almost apology of season 3 – a fact that is emphasized by several characters’ scenes that tell each other that they are sorry for the miserable things they do before. Season 4 is a reminder of why so many people fell into this exhibition: it is funny, it is dramatic, it is raw and very much to watch. It is also surprisingly sweet – characters that inhabited this series really care about each other. They are not just colleagues, they are a family. And we have invested in seeing them doing things as they struggle with all the chaos with life throws them.

Season 3 set up a threatening Chicago Tribune review that could do or break the bear. Carmy received an overview of that review in the last second of the season, and she didn’t seem particularly pleased. Indeed, season 4 confirms that the review was not overwhelmingly positive – “they didn’t make noises,” Carmy says to Ayo Edenbir’s Sydney, to which Sydney replies: “They didn’t like it chaos. “Sydney calculates that Carmy seems to be dependent on the idea of chaos – why else he is constantly calling for a bear on the menu, throwing his entire team in the afternoon? Carmy demands that he does not love chaos – but what make He loves? He loved cooking, but now his whole worldview seems to have run out.

Poor criticism in hand, the bear is now at the crossroads. There is only enough money in the restaurant to stay on the surface for a short time, and the clock is literally ticking. Can Carmy and his team get their activities together to pull a miracle and save the bear? Or has it left business, like so many other restaurants? But rescuing a bear is not the only focus of the 4 season. This new season also finds the characters who all ask themselves where they are going-the moment, and Carmy is watching the clip of Bill Murray’s time-to-day movie “Groundhog Day” Hammer Home Home The idea that everyone may be in an endless cycle. Murray’s character escaped her seemingly endless loop by learning to be a better person, and that’s what Carmy and her friend have to do. They have to grow and make changes.

Bear season 4 reminds us why we fell in love with this show

Once again, Actors shoot all the cylinders, and while some can do more than others, the band is a really secret ingredient that makes a “bear” such a successful meal. White is naturally observed – he has a hypnotic, strong quality, and as an actor he is very good at conveying deep feelings by saying very little. The scene of the late season of the season, where he meets with a mother who plays with the guest star Jamie Lee Curtis, is emotionally devastating, and White and Curtis do both incredible work at the moment. It is definitely a scene that everyone talks about.

Ebon Moss-Bachrach is still an exhibition MVP Richie, a character who has grown so much since we first met him, and I say that the character feels somewhat marginalized in the huge pieces of the season, perhaps because Moss-Bachrach fired a busy Marvel “Fantastic Four” movie. And Ayo Edebir’s Sydney has to dispute with his own problems – he has an offer to jump the ship and start a fresh new joint, but can it really leave the bear behind? The comedy is Edenbir’s Forte, but he has been given a few heavy dramatic moments this season and nail them.

Although there are large emotional punches and even greater announcements, the “Bear” season 4 often has a basic information approach. It gives up the 3 trials of the season to tell more about a detached story-oriented fan that is easy to stick to. Again: I don’t know if season 4 is meant to be a deliberate course correction (evaluation for a short time between 3 and 4 is a good chance that is a good opportunity not), but it feels like that. It’s good to try new things from time to time, but you can’t win the comfort food you know and love, and the “bear” season 4 understands it. I suspect that the show may take much longer to evaluate the story’s instructions, but I’m glad the series returned to its strengths.

/Movie rating: 8/10

The “bear” season 4 is now in Hulu.
