Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s war against vaccines won another victory. An external consultative panel newly reached by RFK JR. voted today to recommend against people using vaccines containing Thimérosal, an ingredient in the past common that anti-vaccination defenders were wrongly blamed for causing autism and other health problems.
The advisory committee for immunization practices met this week to issue several recommendations related to vaccines. During a majority vote, the AIPI recommended against children, pregnant people and adults receiving certain influenza vaccines with Thimérosal, despite decades of data showing no harm. The decision is the strongest indicator to date that the country’s public health has been diverted by anti-vacancies.
The APIP is a panel of external experts organized by the centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Their recommendations considerably influence vaccines that are systematically provided to the public. For example, states often require children to receive vaccines universally recommended by the AIPI, such as measles vaccine, mumps and rubella (MMR), before being able to enter public schools.
RFK Jr., who has a long history of disinformation of disinformation linked to the vaccine, has been busy stacking the bridge against vaccines in several ways, in particular via the ACIP. In early June, he unilaterally The 17 members of the ACIP. He then quickly, without public opinion, replenished the panel with new people named, some of whom have deformed science on vaccine safety or financially benefiting To testify against vaccine manufacturers.
The new ACIP panel met for the first time on Wednesday and Thursday. Its members have adopted certain non -controversial votes, such as the recommendation of the use of the Routine du Clesrovimab, a treatment of recently approved antibodies, to prevent severe infection of the syncytial respiratory virus in infants unprotected by maternal vaccines. And he continued to recommend an annual seasonal flu vaccine for Americans aged six months and more without contraindications.
But the AIPI was also responsible for re-examining a subject of long-term discussion of anti-vaccination supporters concerning the supposed health risks of Thimérosal in flu vaccines. Lyn Redwood, former president of the anti-vaccine group founded by RFK Jr., Children’s Health Defense, made a presentation at the ACIP on Thursday morning, blaming the Thimérosal for neurological problems.
Thimérosal is a mercury-based curator once commonly added to numerous vaccines in the United States in the late 1990s, he became a scales of the anti-vaccination movement, which argued that it was a possible culprit behind the supposed link between higher rates of autism and vaccines. In 1999, in an abundance of precautions, health agencies and certain pediatric groups pushed For the elimination of the thimerosal from infant vaccines. Nowadays, in the United States, it is mainly used in multi-dose formulations of the influenza vaccine, which the ACIPS was invited to examine.
But the vast majority of studies Since then, they have not found any solid evidence that Thimérosal in vaccines has causes health problems, not to mention autism. This week, before the meeting of the AIPI, the scientists of the CDC published A report that supported this conclusion and described the methodological faults of the few studies that are contrary to it. But the document was quickly removed from the CDC website, allegedly because it did not follow the “appropriate process to display”, according to HHS. Meanwhile, the original APIP presentation of Redwood appeared To reference a study that does not exist – not the first time Something similar has happened recently (The presentation was then donated without the false quotation).
None of this prevented the redid from making a presentation to the ACIP Thursday which ignored the scientific consensus on the Thimérosal. Kennedy also appointed Redwood, a retired nurse, to work in the CDC vaccine safety office. And despite the doubts of certain members of the ACIP, the majority agreed to recommend against the use of vaccines against flu containing Thimérosal.
We hope that the recommendation will have little practical effect, because most flu vaccines are a single dose. Other ingredients available could replace its conservation effects if vaccine manufacturers wish. But the decision is frustrating, given the total lack of evidence behind it and the feeling.
RFK’s reshuffle by the ACIP seems to have worked as planned to stimulate the voice of the anti-vaccination movement and their absurd ideas. Today is Thimérosal. Tomorrow, it could be several of the most important vaccines on which we count.
