AI race was never going to be polite. But what takes place in Silicon Valley in 2025 is more like the succession of Black Mirror meets than a traditional technological rivalry. Forget the code. These are power, control and a quick closing window to dominate the most transforming technology in history.
At the center of the fight: three men, three visions of the world and a finish line.
Let’s break down the fighters.
This one is personal and litigious. Musk and Altman co -founded Openai in 2015 as a non -profit organization devoted to the construction of safe and open source artificial intelligence. But bromance collapsed when Musk tried to take control of the company in 2018 and failed. He has left bitterly and attacks Openai since.
In 2023, Musk continued Openai and Altman, accusing them of betraying the mission of the non -profit organization by aligning themselves too closely with Microsoft and taking advantage of security. The trial is still struggling by the Federal Court. Among other things, he claims that the flagship product of Openai, Chatgpt, is a closed -source commercial weapon funded by Big Tech and wrapped in secret.
Altman denies betrayal and Openai to contradict. The legal drama is thick and the two parties assigned internal documents to appear.
Meanwhile, the Musk XAI develops its own Chatgpt rival and launches it on X (formerly Twitter).
It is a very public and very expensive fight on which can define ethical AI.
Start: Both want to build AG, or general artificial intelligence, a more intelligent system than humans. Musk wants to do it in his own way with radical transparency and without corporate ropes. Altman wants to do it with Microsoft Money, surveillance and a mission approach. The future of IA security and perhaps civilization is the price.
They were supposed to be part of the same team. Microsoft has invested more than $ 13 billion in Openai and uses Chatgpt to supply Bing, Copilot and Azure. But now, the two companies are increasingly disagreeing and go towards a potential violation.
Microsoft has quietly built its own AI internal team called Mai, which develops independent OpenAi foundation models. The company wants more control, less surprises and perhaps a total replacement.
Altman, meanwhile, transformed Openai into a non -profit hybrid juggernaut. It builds personalized fleas, launches an AI store and quickly travels to material and business services. Microsoft considers this as direct competition.
It is an effiloche marriage maintained together by a mutual advantage, but barely.
Start: A real split could upset the entire ecosystem of the company’s AI and open the door to competitors like Google, Meta or Anthropic to dive. This relationship could end with another clash of the courtroom.
It is the quietest but perhaps the most mowed war. Meta made AI its top priority for 2025 and Zuckerberg goes directly to the Altman team.
In recent months, Meta has offered $ 100 million and more in the signing of bonuses to OpenAi researchers in order to poach the best talents, says Altman. Until now, most have remained loyal to Altman. But the scale of offers shocked the valley.
In a podcast with his brother, Altman did not let the words: “They started to make them, like, giant offers to many people in our team, you know, like signing bonuses of $ 100 million,” said Altman, adding: “It’s crazy.” He accused Meta of having “just tried to copy Openai, to the errors of the user interface”.
Zuckerberg’s strategy is familiar. Ossu, expend, off-turn, over-business. Meta’s IA tools are always basic compared to Chatgpt, but with enough hires and acquisitions (like discussions with rumor with the Startup Voice-Ai Playai), Meta hopes to jump the field.
Stakes: Zuckerberg is fighting not only for domination in AI, but for relevance. If Meta fails to catch up, it could be left in a world where AI, not social media, is the next major major computer platform.

The AI breed has become a war of personalities. Altman, The Techno-Missionary. Musk, capitalist chaos. Zuckerberg, The Empire Builder. Everyone thinks they are the only ones to be able to lead humanity to the next era of intelligence. What takes place is a battle for the 21st century infrastructure: which has the models, which forms the machines and which decides what AI thinks.
And if the prosecution, the assignments and the poaching wars are an indication, they are ready to burn billions to win.
