OpenAI Loses Four Key Researchers to Meta

Four OpenAi researchers Leave the company to go to Meta, two sources confirm to Wired.

Shengjia Zhao, Shuchao Bi, Jiahui Yu and Hongyu Ren have joined the Meta superintelligence team. Their Openai Slack profiles were disabled. The information first reported the departures.

It is the last of a series of aggressive movements by Mark Zuckerberg, who rushes to make up for Openai, Anthropic and Google in the construction of general artificial intelligence. Earlier this month, OPENAI CEO Sam Altman said Meta had made “giant offers” to Openai employees with “$ 100 million signature bonuses”. He added that: “None of our best people decided to take them on it.” A source of Openai confirmed the offers.

Hongyu Ren was the post-training of Openai for O3 and O4 Mini models, as well as the open source model that should be published this summer, according to sources. Post-training is the process of refining a model after being formed on a primary data set.

According to another source, Shengjia Zhao is highly qualified in deep research. He joined Openai in the summer of 2022 and helped build the GPT-4 model of the startup.

Jiahui Yu made a visit to Google Deepmind before joining Openai at the end of 2023. Shuchao Bi was a manager of Openai multimodal models.

The departures of Openai came shortly after the company has lost three researchers from its Zurich office, the Wall Street Journal Reported.

OPENAI and META did not immediately respond to a request for comments.
