Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the car manufacturer has completed its first driver -free delivery from a new car to a customer, buying a model Y model from Austin, Texas from the company, Gigafactory to an apartments building in the region on June 27.

The Tesla account on social network X, which also belongs to Musk, shared a video Night showing the model crossing public roads in Austin, including highways, without human in the driver’s seat or the front passenger seat of the car.

Tesla did not say what version of its software and hardware had been installed and used in the car indicated in the clip – or if and when this technology would be commercially available for its customers.

To model and Owner manualAvailable on Tesla’s website, indicates that to use Tesla’s full autonomous (supervised) option – which is the most advanced partially advanced driving system of the company available today – the owners must keep their hands on the wheel and stay ready to take control or brake at any time.

Tesla’s video vehicle was displayed operating without driver on the highway, going through the residential streets and around the parking lots before arriving and stopping for a transfer to a customer. The buyer was waiting by the sidewalk in an apartment building alongside Tesla employees, sports shirts with logo puff. (The sidewalk has been painted red, indicating that it is a fire lane constantly.)

In 2016, Tesla shared an automatic pilot video – known as the video “Paint It Black” – which had been staged in a way that exaggerated the autonomous capacities of its cars, the deposits Later revealed.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Survey on Tesla on possible security defects in their FSD systems and recently asked for more information from the company about its beginnings in Robotaxi after its cars violated certain traffic rules.

Friday, in articles on X, Musk wrote: “The first The fully autonomous delivery of a Tesla Model Y from the factory to a customer house across the city, including the highways, has just been completed a day before the scheduled date !! Congratulations to the @TESLA_AI teams, both software and design of a AI! “”

He also written“There was no one in the car and no distant operator controls at any time. Fully autonomous! To our knowledge, this is the first fully autonomous motivation without anyone in the car or operating the car remotely on a public highway.”

Musk’s assertion on the “fully autonomous first campaign” on a public highway was not exact. Alphabet– Waymo, which already operates commercial robotaxis services in several American cities, has offered fully autonomous rides on Phoenix motorways Since 2024And has since extended these rides to Los Angeles and San Francisco.

AI chief in Tesla, Ashok Elluswamy, said in Posts on x that the automaker “literally chose a random customer who ordered a Y model in the Austin region” to participate. He also said that the vehicle delivered was “exactly the same as each model produced there in the Tesla factory”.

Elluswamy also noted A post on x that the Y model in driverless delivery has traveled a “maximum speed of 72 MPH”. Most of the Texas motorways have a maximum speed limit of 70 miles per hour, according to Texas Department of Transportation website.

In addition, Tesla began a Robotaxi pilot program in Austin last weekend involving 10 to 20 of its model SUV equipped with technology, of which Tesla has little revealed to the public.

The Tesla Robotaxi service is only available to select, invited runners who were mainly influencers and analysts, many of whom generate income by publishing Tesla-Fan content on platforms like X and Youtube. Tesla Robotaxi vehicles work with a human safety supervisor on board on the front passenger seat and are supervised remotely by employees in an operations center.

Since 2016, Musk Promised that Tesla would soon be able to transform all of its existing electric vehicles into fully autonomous vehicles with a simple and live software update. In his master plan, partly, he described a future where each owner of Tesla could add their car to a “shared fleet Tesla simply by pressing a button on the Tesla Phone application”, “allowing their car to generate income for them while they are sleeping.

In 2019, Musk said Tesla would have 1 million robotaxis on the road by 2020 – A complaint that helped him raise $ 2 billion at the time from institutional investors.

Although Tesla has not kept these promises so far, driverless delivery to Texas this week has aroused excitement among musc believers and her vision.

Meanwhile, Tesla fights a brand reaction in response to the often incendiary political rhetoric of the CEO, its approvals of the extreme right -right party in Germany and its work for the Trump administration.

Tesla sales have decreased from one year to key markets, especially throughout EuropeIn the first five months of 2025 partly following this backlash. The company is also faced with increased competition from electric vehicle manufacturers, in particular Chinese brands such as Byd, Nio and Xiaomi, offering more affordable and more recent models.

Tesla is expected to disclose its vehicle production and delivery numbers in the second quarter on July 2.
