The latest “Star Trek” movie “Part 31” was released on Paramount+in January 2025, disappointing Trekkies and Non-Trekies. Director Olatunde Osunsanmi threw a colorful, heavy, seemingly lightweight Caper movie that felt as far away from the “Star Trek” event as Franchise has ever gone. Before “Part 31”, the last hiking movie audience saw “Star Trek Beyon” in 2016, third (and final?) Movie in an alternative Kelvin Timine movie. The Kelvin time, as Trekit can tell you, was the parallel to “Star Trek” street, where all the familiar crews of the USS company were all played by new, younger, hotter actors.
Simon Pegg replaced the late James Doohan’s company as a Stalwart engineer, and he brought a lot of nerd to the character. Pegg has written a memoir of the youthful obsession with pop culture, so he was pleased that Punch joined “Star Trek”. In fact, when it was time to make “Star Trek Beyond”, Pegg even wrote the script (with Doug Jung). “Beyond” stands above its immediate Kelvin pre-teaching in the sense that it is not quite as dark and aggressive, even if it is still an action. However, “Beyond” was not exactly as big as its predecessors, and it effectively ended the Kelvin movie series. Paramount has said Recently in May 2024 that the fourth Kelvin movie is still in development but I think Most hikes are “we believe it when we see it” thinking.
Simon Pegg commented on the future of “Star Trek” movies Recent Variety video interviewWhere he said that any next “Star Trek” movie is, he would rather that filmmakers stay away from the tired trend to make it “granular” or “dark”. Those things he really crossed are not the same as “mature”.
As mentioned above, the first two Kelvin era “Star Trek” movie-JJ Abrams-directed in 2009 and 2013 rolled “coarse” ethics, strongly directing violence, and more traditionally avoided philosophical “Star Trek” sounds. They, unlike the trek films coming before them, were very action-centered and more fighting and destruction (especially “Star Trek in Darkness”).
Of course, “gloomy and granular” or “dark and Edgy” came in critical buzz phrases sometime in the mid-2000s, with several older pop features in a more adorable way, adding consecutive, PO album and dark elements of violence for characters that had previously been light and fun. Some examples of this are the 2004 “King Arthur” 2005 “Batman Begins” 2006 “Casino Royale” 2007 “Halloween” and the gradual darkness of “Harry Potter” originally “Harry Potter”. “Star Trek” received the same treatment in 2009. This lightweight material eclipse was essentially a way for young people to enjoy stories that were thought to be child -friendly.
“Star Trek”, as Pegg claims, is not childish, but there was a general perception that “granular” would make it more serious:
“Nowadays, everything becomes very rough. And I think this strange reason” how do we do this that is basically quite youthful? “Even if I claim that the original ‘Star Trek ‘ The series was not childish. It was actually quite sophisticated. Things do not have to be rough and dark for adults. “
In fact, they just have to be smart. Gentle may be more mature than violent. Although Pegg probably saw what Abrams did with “Star Trek”, he was probably aware of the more violent “Star Trek” television programs that have made debut on Paramount+because “Star Trek: Discovery” debut in 2017.
If “Star Trek” movies continue, Pegg feels that they should be thoughtful and imaginative … not violent. He was a fan of the original “Star Trek” series from 1966 and wants to capture that spirit. “Star Trek” is, after all, of patches. The characters do not need to kill and destroy vessels to raise the stakes, and no one must have a vengeance to make a thug-forced story. In the words of Pegg:
“Science literature does not have to be full of death and swear and questionable morals that adults consume. It just has to be thoughtful and imaginative. I would like to see the” Star Trek “event to return to the original series. And get there for a five-year task even though we have completed a five-year operation.
In fact, if Abrams “Star Trek” was released in 2009 and “Beyond” was in 2016, it has already been a seven -year task.
Nobody knows what the “Star Trek” movie will be done next or if someone is done at all. Many Trek movies seem to be in development, but nothing is on the immediate horizon. Paramount+ is currently working TV series called “Starfleet Academy” And the following season, “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” debut in July. That exhibition has at least something of the original spirit.
