American President Donald Trump renews its efforts to take control of Greenland for the national security of his country – again.
“We need Greenland for national security, not for minerals… If you look at Greenland, you look up and down the coast, you have Russian and Chinese ships everywhere. We need it for national security. We have to have it,” Trump said. told reporters Monday at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida.
Trump also made it clear that the United States is not interested in Greenland because of its mineral wealth.
“We have so many mineral sites and oil and everything. We have more oil than any other country in the world,” Trump said. “We’ll have to sort everything out.”
On Sunday, Trump said he had appointed Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry as special envoy to the Arctic island to “lead the charge.”
“I am pleased to announce that I am nominating the GREAT Governor of Louisiana, Jeff Landry, as United States Special Envoy to Greenland,” Trump said. wrote on Truth Social.
“Jeff understands how critical Greenland is to our national security and will strongly advance our country’s interests for the safety, security and survival of our allies, and of course the world. Congratulations Jeff.”

White House deputy press secretary Anna Kelly said Monday that Trump decided to create the special envoy role because the administration views Greenland as “a strategically important location in the Arctic to maintain peace through force.”
The Trump administration put additional pressure on Copenhagen on Monday, suspension of leases for five major offshore wind projects under construction off the east coast of the United States, two of which are being developed by the state-controlled Danish company Orsted.
Trump’s announcement of the special envoy’s appointment sparks fresh criticism from Denmark and Greenland over Washington’s interest in the mineral-rich Arctic island.
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen told Danish media that he would summon the US ambassador to his ministry over the appointment, “to make him understand once again that some lines are being crossed here, but of course also to get an explanation.”
“I am very upset by this appointment of a special envoy. And I am particularly upset by the statements of the envoy, which we find completely unacceptable,” Lokke Rasmussen said.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and her Greenlandic counterpart Jens-Frederik Nielsen have been released. a joint declaration regarding Trump saying the US needed Greenland for its “national security”.

Nielsen from Greenland also released a statement Monday after Trump’s nomination, he wrote: “We woke up once again to a new statement from the American president, who has now appointed a special envoy to Greenland. This may seem important. But it changes nothing for us here at home.”
“Our future is decided by us. Greenland is our country. We have our own democracy, our own decisions and a strong community that stands firm. Greenland belongs to the Greenlandic people and territorial integrity must be respected,” he added.
“We are happy to cooperate with other countries, including the United States, but this must always be done with respect for us, our values and our wishes. There is no reason for concern. We are united and we stand firm.”
Nielsen also shared a post on Facebookdeclaring himself “sad, because during a press conference this evening, the American president once again expressed the wish to seize Greenland”.
“With words like these, our country is reduced to a question of security and power. This is not how we see ourselves, and this is not how we in Greenland can or should talk about ourselves,” he continued.
“We are a people with a long history, a strong culture and a vibrant democracy. We are a country responsible for our own territory and our own future.”
Nielsen said Greenland’s “territorial integrity” and “right to self-determination” are “rooted in international law and cannot simply be ignored.”
“Therefore, I am also grateful to you. Thank you, guys at home, for the clear support and unity you have shown. The calm and dignity with which you have faced the situation sends a clear signal that people stand firm on their values and responsibilities,” he added.
“Greenland is our country. This is where our decisions are made. And at all times, I will fight for our freedom and our right to self-determination and shape our future.”
Trump has long advocated for Greenland to become part of the United States.
Asset first expressed interest in Greenland in 2019 during his first term. He said Greenland was “hurting Denmark very badly” and costing it $700 million a year. His solution was to get the United States to acquire Greenland, calling it a “big real estate deal.”
