Not all good movies get the reviews they deserve, especially since bad Rotten Tomatoes scores seem to pile up on easy targets.
Even Netflix has its share of films that are much better than their reviews make them out to be, and it’s time to give these films a second chance.

“The Hollow Man” (2000)
Rotten Tomatoes score: 26 percent
Hollow Man is far from being the best film of Paul Verhoevenbut Showgirls Nevertheless, Verhoeven set the bar quite high with RoboCop, Total recall And Basic instinct. This film is an updated version of The invisible man, and the special effects used to make Kevin Bacon disappear are still impressive 25 years later.
Bacon plays Dr. Sebastian Caine, the leader of a scientific team including his ex-lover, Linda McKay (Elizabeth Shue), and her secret boyfriend, Matt Kensington (Josh Brolin). Faced with a premature end to their experiments, Caine convinces his team to use his invisibility formula on himself as their first human test. It works wonderfully until they try to make it visible again. And Caine’s newfound power quickly goes to his head when he realizes that an invisible man can do almost anything without fear of reprisal. Especially if he feels like a murderer.

“Babylon” (2022)
Rotten Tomatoes score: 57 percent
Damien Chazelle had a very good track record with The The Earth And Whiplash that it was astonishing when Babylon failed to connect with audiences or critics. It is a major turning point that chronicles the final years of the silent film era in Hollywood and the beginning of cinema as we know it today. If the three-plus hour length is too long for you, just watch the movie in small chunks. It might actually play better that way.
There’s a large cast to follow, but only three main characters. Brad Pitt stars as Jack Conrad, a silent film superstar who realizes his career might not last as the transition to sound begins. Margot RobbieNellie LaRoy would be a star in any era of Hollywood, and her self-destructive side is also very familiar to anyone who has ever seen an actor or actress crash and burn. Meanwhile, Manny Torres (Diego Calva) is willing to do anything to make it in Hollywood, even if it means turning his back on who he really is and where he comes from.

“Sleeping with Other People” (2015)
Rotten Tomatoes score: 64 percent
Jason Sudeikis And Alison Brie are the anti-couples in Sleeping with other people. Jake Harper (Sudeikis) and Elaine “Lainey” Dalton (Brie) are longtime friends, first-time lovers and sex addicts in this film. After growing apart after graduating from college, Jake and Lainey find themselves in a support group and reestablish their bond.
Even though Jake is dating Paula (Amanda Peet) and Lainey is having an affair with Dr. Matthew Sobvechik (Adam Scott), they continue to gravitate towards each other. What Jake and Lainey have may be far from love, but it’s enough to sabotage their respective relationships as they try to figure out what they want. The decision they arrive at may not satisfy either of them.
Sleeping with other people will be broadcast on Netflix on December 31.
