A-ha singer Morten Harket diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease

Morten Harket, the main singer of the Norwegian group A-HA, of which Take over me Track remains one of the most popular songs of the 1980s, said on Wednesday that he had received a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease.

In a press release on the group’s website, and confirmed by the Sony Music label, Harket, 65, said that he had undergone several brain surgery cycles and that he managed the symptoms of the disease.

Parkinson causes deterioration of the nervous system of the brain, leading to tremors and other symptoms that can gradually become worse over time. The disease can be treated by surgery and medication, but there is no remedy.

Harket said he had suffered neurological procedures last year for electrodes to be established in his brain and that it had reduced the symptoms.

Known for the wide range of his voice, Harket said that he did not know if he would be able to perform again.

“I have no problem accepting the diagnosis,” he said, adding that it was difficult to balance drugs and manage the side effects of treatment.

“I try my best to prevent my whole system from declining,” said Harket.
