At Bitcoin 2025, Crypto Purists and the MAGA Faithful Collide

Now that Trump is in office, launching his own crypto companies and requesting legislation establishing regulations on digital assets (light) to appear on his desk by August, the votes of his supporters drew those of bitcueners who warn how the abandonment of crypto principles could endanger their community.

“Try [politicize bitcoin] is really dangerous for everyone, because the message of what Bitcoin does … [as it becomes] This tool for the Republican Party, ”explains Erik Cason, author of the book Cryptosovereignty.

In a panel entitled “Bitcoins becoming sycophants of the state”, he develops a crowd on the floor of the conference: “The quantity of sucking the cock takes place towards the political establishment here is shameful and disgusting,” he said. “You can have Bitcoin today and get out of this fouttu establishment which is designed to fly and redistribute this money to war and horror.”

Among the resounding cheers, an older man gets up and pumps his fist in agreement. A man behind him categorically strikes his leg.

Politicians “need us more than we need,” continues Bruce Fenton, founder and CEO of Fintech Company Chastone Labs. “We should refuse meetings with them … We have invented Nerd money that they cannot stop with all their tanks.”

Not only is the state dangerous as a war vehicle, they say; It is also risky to align with a political party, as it could cause a reactionary reaction. The next time the Democrats take over, fears Cason, they “go after bitcoin and crypto harshly”.

Bitcoins “need to understand that we are now our own political contingency, and Pandering on each side is a bad service,” he said after the conference. “Bitcoin is not for the right or the left. It’s for the bottom, not the top.”

Bitcoin purists could have hoped for the vocal support of Ross Ulbricht, the former road operator Silk Market Dark-Web Market (where users could use Bitcoin to buy drugs). Ulbricht has become a symbol of the crypto operating not included by the rules of the state when it was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2015. Trump Pardoned He earlier this year.

Ulbricht’s freedom was a key problem for the Bitcoin community that David Bailey, CEO of BTC Inc, which organized Bitcoin 2025, made sure to communicate to Trump during the 2024 campaign how high was raised for its vote. But the appearance of Ulbricht at the conference is paradoxical: his anti-state feeling was sanctioned by the very state that he wanted to go around.

“The impression that people have is that Bitcoins simply care about money,” said Ulbricht’s mother, Lyn, who has been witnessing the Bitcoin conference for years to release her son, said: “But many are idealistic and attentive.” A movement of donors and large and small activists in Bitcoin, Crypto and Libertarian communities released her son from prison, she says.

When Ulbricht goes to the main scene, tagged and assured of him in a long red tie, he does not thank Trump directly (he is “grateful for having elected him”). He also does not thank Bailey for his plea, or even his mother for his tireless efforts. He thanks the public, whom he urges to “remain faithful to our principles” – freedom, decentralization and, he underlines, unity. “It is more important than ever,” he says, while Bitcoin’s popularity spreads.
