Israeli fire killed at least 40 people on Monday, half of whom are near a help distribution site operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation supported by the United States, said the Ministry of Health of the territory, as UN officials have denounced Israeli back delivery methods.
Doctors said that at least 20 people had been killed and 200 others injured near a Rafah aid distribution site, the latest daily mass shots that killed hundreds of Palestinians trying to reach food since Israel has imposed a new distribution system after partly raising a total blockade of almost three months.
Israel has put responsibility for distributing a large part of the aid it allows Gaza in the hands of Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which operates three sites in areas guarded by Israeli troops. The United Nations rejected the plan, claiming that the GHF distribution is inadequate, dangerous and violates the principles of humanitarian impartiality.
There was no immediate comment from the Israeli army on Monday reports on shots. In previous incidents, he sometimes recognized the troops opening shots near help sites, while blaming activists for provoking violence.
Relatives arrived at Nasser Hospital to cry the dead. Women and children cried next to the bodies wrapped in white shrouds.
“We went there by thinking that we would get help to feed our children, but it turned out to be a trap, a murder. I advise everyone: do not go,” said Ahmed Fayad, one of those who tried to touch help on Monday.
“Mortal distribution system”
Philippe Lazzarini, the head of the Palestinian nations agency UNRWA, said in an article on X: “Dozens of people have been killed and injured in recent days, including hungry people trying to get food from a fatal distribution system.”
Before the creation of the new system, the aid had been distributed to 2.3 million Gaza residents mainly by United Nations agencies such as UNRWA, which employ thousands of staff within Gaza and operate hundreds of sites through the extent of the enclave.
Israel says he had to repress the distribution because Hamas fighters diverted food aid. Activists deny this and say that Israel uses hunger as a weapon.
Lazzarini said that Israel had not lifted restrictions on United Nations agencies, including UNRWA, which has made aid, despite an abundance of assistance ready to be transferred to the enclave.
COGAT, the Israeli military aid coordination agency on Sunday, said that this week, it facilitated the entry of 292 trucks with the United Nations humanitarian aid and the international community, including food and flour in Gaza.
He said the Israeli army would continue to enable humanitarian aid while ensuring that it has not reached Hamas.
At least 300 killed since the opening of the sites
Before the incident on Monday, the Gaza Ministry of Health said that at least 300 people had so far been killed, and more than 2,600 injured, near aid distribution sites since the start of operations.
In Geneva, Volker Turk, head of the United Nations, told the United Nations Human Rights Council on Monday that Israel had “armed” food in Gaza. He repeated a call to investigations into deadly attacks near the GHF distribution sites.
“The means and methods of War Israel inflict horrible and unreasonable suffering on the Palestinians in Gaza,” Turk said.
“The disturbing and dehumanizing rhetoric of senior officials of the Israeli government recalls the most serious crimes,” he added.

On Friday, ten Palestinians were killed by Israeli tanks in Gaza, said the local health authorities indicated, as a group supported by the United States and Israeli, distributing aid in the enclave declared that all of its distribution sites had been closed until further notice.
On Sunday, at least five people were killed while thousands of Palestinians approached two GHF distribution sites in the center and south of the enclave.
The GHF said in a statement that it had resumed food deliveries on Sunday, distributing more than two million meals from its three distribution sites without incident.
The war in Gaza broke out 20 months ago after activists led by Hamas made a descent into Israel and took 251 hostages and killed 1,200 people, most civilians on October 7, 2023.
The military campaign of Israel has since killed nearly 55,000 Palestinians, most civilians, according to the Gaza health authorities, and has flattened a large part of the densely populated band. Most of the population is moved and generalized malnutrition is an important concern.
