Black smoke was still getting rid of the middle of the Soroka Medical Center when we arrived, Several hours after Iran’s attack on the building.
Tork -metal tilt pieces – an apparently part of the missile itself – dispersed in an area of 200 m (656 feet) in and around the hospital complex.
Vehicles carrying medical staff bordered the road outside – an emergency response to a situation that many feared would be worse.
Crowds of soldiers, police and rescue teams hit the hospital’s entrances, while a flow of ministers arrived to express their indignation in the face of the strike.
Alon Uzi was walking outside the entrance to the hospital with two bags of goods.
He said he had received emergency treatment when the attack occurred and had not had time to reach the shelter.
“I was lying in my bed and I heard a big boom,” he told us. “And before I could do anything, there was an explosion and part of the ceiling fell and I was covered with white dust.
“There was no time to get out of bed. I was just preparing myself and then I heard a whipping noise.”
Inside the emergency reception, the air carried the flavor of chemicals mixed with dust. The patients were still evacuated to civilians deep in the building, while the emergency teams passed through the surgery rooms that were affected.
Medical staff told local media that patients had recently been transferred to the emergency shelters of the underground hospital. According to the Israel Ministry of Health.
Professor Asher Bashiri, director of maternity, said that he could see the field of the impact of his office.
“It looks incredible,” he told me. “The upper part of the building is cracked and the fire came in the early hours. Everything seems broken.”
He said they had moved all patients in a more protected area at the start of the war.
“We were very, very lucky,” he said. “It could have been much worse. But we always live in an incredible situation. It’s not over – I don’t know what’s going on tomorrow, or the next day. We are just happy that we are alive.”
The director of the hospital, Shlomi Codish, said that the northern surgical building had been affected and that several districts had been demolished, with significant damage to the entire hospital.
“We expect us to transfer more than 200 patients in the coming hours in other medical centers,” he said. “We are trying to minimize the number of people; we do not know if the buildings could collapse or if the services can collapse.”
Among the flow of ministers visiting the site today was the Minister of Culture Miki Zohar, of the Likud party of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“All people need to know what we are facing-a diet that tries to kill innocent people,” he said. “When you are dealing with evil, it’s a different war. Believe me, we will not stop before winning. We will answer and it will be very strong.”
Mr. Zohar was questioned about the history of Israel of the bombing hospitals in Gaza – the locations that the army says to be used as military control centers by Hamas.
“We keep innocent in Gaza as a safe as much as possible,” he said. “We call them to evacuate before bombing. This is the big difference between Iran and us.”

The Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz accused Iran’s supreme leader of committing “most serious war crimes”, saying that he would be held responsible.
Netanyahu accused Iran of having deliberately targeted civilians, promising that Israel “will demand the total price of Tehran tyrants”.
The Iranian media claim that the center they aimed at was at Gav-Yam Tech Park, which is less than 3 km (1.86 thousand).
It was one of the half-dozen sites struck by Iranian missiles on Thursday morning, one day after Donald Trump demanded the “unconditional surrender” of Iran.
It is a reminder that the two parties have the capacity to degenerate this conflict, either by using different weapons – or by choosing different targets.
The American president estimates the decision to enter the war alongside Israel, while demanding that Iran submit to an agreement ending its nuclear enrichment, in order to block its path to a nuclear weapon.
On Wednesday, Israel said that he had sent 40 hunting planes to bomb targets in Iran, including an inactive nuclear reactor to Arak and a nuclear development building in Natanz, as well as dozens of missile and radar sites.
After almost a week of daily attacks on both sides, this war is precariously balanced on the verge of a much broader conflict.
