The BBC incorrectly rejected the White House criticism of its Gaza cover, describing an assertion that it had deleted a story as “completely false”.
During the Tuesday White House conference, President Trump’s press secretary Karoline Leavitt accused the BBC of having taken “Hamas” when reporting the number of people killed in a shooting near a help distribution site on Sunday.
She also wrongly said that the BBC had retracted a story.
“The assertion that the BBC has shot a story after examining the images is completely wrong. We have not deleted any history and we maintain our journalism,” the BBC said in a statement.
Karoline Leavitt criticized the BBC for changing the number of victims in the title of history. The company said that its coverage had been updated with new figures throughout the day, which is “a completely normal practice on any quick new”.
The figures were “still clearly awarded, from the first figure of 15 of the doctors, at 31, killed from the Ministry of Health managed by Hamas to the last declaration of the Red Cross of” at least 21 “at the campaign hospital,” the statement said.
On Sunday, there are contradictory reports on what happened near a help distribution center in Rafah.
Civilian witnesses, NGOs and health officials said people had been slaughtered while waiting for food to a help distribution point. But the Israeli army said that the reports were false and denied that its troops had shot on civilians or inside the site. Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a group supported by the United States and Israel, which now manages aid distribution, reports were “pure and simple manufacturing”.
Israel does not allow international press organizations, including BBC, in Gaza, which makes it difficult to verify what is happening in the territory.
On Tuesday, there was a similar incident when local officials said the Israeli forces had shot civilians when they were trying to collect aid, killing at least 27 people.
The FDI said that his troops had fired after identifying what he described as suspects who moved towards them “deviate from the designated access routes”.
The White House press secretary also accused the BBC of having deleted a story because it “found no evidence of nothing” – referring to a BBC report checks a viral video.
In his declaration, the BBC explained that this report on Monday, which examined the images, noted that “a viral video published on social networks was not linked to the aid distribution center which he claimed to show”. But the video did not work on the information channels of the BBC and did not inform its reports.
“The confusion of these two stories is simply misleading. It is essential to ensure that people on what is happening in Gaza. International journalists are not currently authorized in Gaza and we would welcome the support of the White House in our call for immediate access,” added the BBC declaration.
Israel launched a military campaign in Gaza in response to the cross -border attack in Hamas on October 7, 2023, during which around 1,200 people were killed and 251 others were taken hostage.
At least 54,470 people have been killed in Gaza since then, including 4 201 since Israel resumed its offensive on March 18, according to the Ministry of Health managed by Hamas.
