A bride was killed during her wedding night in a village near the city of the French southeast of Avignon after masked armed men opened fire, according to local officials.
An alleged striker was also killed in an apparent shooting exchange, and the groom and a 13 -year -old child were seriously injured during the incident in the village of Goult.
A manhunt involving dozens of police officers and a helicopter is underway for an unknown number of suspects who have managed to flee.
French media report that violence can be linked to drug -related scores.
The authorities have opened an investigation into murder and attempted murder.
Around 04:30 (02:30 GMT) Sunday, the bride, 27, and Groom, 25, left the wedding party in the village hall when unidentified attackers opened fire, reports the AFP news agency.
The first reports suggested that one of the attackers had been returned by the couple’s car, but the Avignon prosecutor, Florence Galtier, described the aspect as having been struck “in the exchange”.
The surviving attackers, who had arrived by car, fled on foot after the shooting, said the prosecutor.
In total, 28 people were present in the room at the time of the attack, according to the police. A woman was also slightly injured in the incident.
The room was reserved in March “for a wedding by people who do not live in the town,” said local mayor Didier Perello.
“I’m indignant,” he added. “We are close to the cities, I will not name them, where unfortunately, we have already seen this kind of thing before.”
Guillaume Molinas, owner of a 50 -year -old restaurant, said that he feared that the deadly attack will give the village of some 1,000 inhabitants a “bad name”.
“The last major incident in the village was 125 years ago,” he said by AFP without giving details.
