It is an exciting period to be a Calgarian, because the world leaders and a small army of delegates will address in Alberta in the coming days for the Summit G7 In Kananiskis.
The annual Summit of the Group of Seven (G7) brings together leaders of seven of the world’s advanced economies: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom and the United States, as well as the European Union.
Canada assumed the group’s presidency for 2025 and thus welcomed the gathering of this year from June 15 to 17 in the Rockies of Alberta west of Calgary.
For weeks, various stakeholders such as police and soldiers are preparing for high security collection.
On Wednesday, mayor Jyoti Gondek and the City Director of City Doug Morgan presented Some of the changes that Calgarians will seeBy focusing on increasing congestion in the city center, as well as on the airport.
The mayor of Calgary, Jyoti Gondek, says that his voters have always shown patience and hospitality when major events come in town. With the days of the G7 summit, she hopes that it will not be different.

“Do not forget that these disturbances, although necessary, are also temporary. And they guarantee the safety of all those involved. ”
“Calgarians are well known for their patience and hospitality. We just ask a bit of both for the next few days. ”
Rolling blockages due to boxes can also affect Calgary commuters at short notice during the summit.
“From our traffic management center, our team will monitor 24/7 roads with access to real -time data and cameras,” said Morgan.
“They can quickly react to the evolution of traffic conditions and maintain things in motion.”
The summit also presents an opportunity for individuals and groups to make their voices heard in several protest areas designated in the city.
“We are going to come together on Sunday to send a strong and clear message to the meeting of world leaders at the top of the G7 – water is not a commodity, and it is not negotiated,” said activist Jesse Cardinal.
She is the executive director of Water GuardiansA group that aims to amplify the voices of indigenous Canadians concerned with the use of one of the most precious resources in the country.
The group will be part of a peaceful rally of several organizations on June 15 in one of the protest zones of the Calgary municipal complex.
“We are indigenous peoples and we bring together a traditional indigenous territory,” said Cardinal.
“We respect the areas that are blocked where we are not supposed to be for security reasons.”
With such an important influx of the application of laws already perceptible to many Calgarians, some may wonder if the Calgary police service will be able to continue its normal work line.
“It is important to remember (the police) is a partnership between the Calgary police service, the RCMP of Alberta, as well as the Alberta sheriffs,” said Gondek.
“The Calgary police service remains determined to serve Calgarians to meet their daily needs as they have always done.”
Professor Doug King, professor of justice studies at Royal University, shares the mayor’s confidence.
“For people who might think” it’s a good opportunity to do harmful things … “Give him a shot and see what’s going on.”
“There will probably be more visible police officers.”
King underlines a long time to prepare, and Calgary’s penchant to organize major events year after year, it’s really as usual for officers.
“This is what Calgary police careers are done,” said King.
“We shouldn’t expect any problem.”
As part of its year of presidency, Canada welcomed a meeting of G7 foreign ministers in Charlevoix, Quebec, from March 12 to 14, and a meeting of G7 finance ministers and central banks in Banff, Alberta, from May 20 to 22.
