The day after the US Airstrikes sur Iran Saturday, Prime Minister Mark Carney called for a de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East and that the parties “immediately return to the negotiation table”.
“Iran’s nuclear program is a serious threat to international security, and Canada has constantly been clear that Iran can never be authorized to develop a nuclear weapon,” he wrote in a press release Shared with X Sunday morning. “While the American military measures taken last night were designed to mitigate this threat, the situation in the Middle East remains very volatile. Stability in the region is a priority.
“As the G7 leaders agreed in Kananaskis, the resolution of the Iranian crisis should lead to a broader de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, including a cease-fire in Gaza,” he continued, adding: “Canada calls on the parties to immediately return to the negotiation table and reach a diplomatic solution to put an end to this crisis.”
A few moments after Carney shared his declaration, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand shared a post carefree Canadians in the Middle East to register for Canada World Affairs “in order to receive specific information in the country, including available travel options.”
Anand wrote that the Canadian government “continues to support all efforts aimed at de -escalation, protecting civilian life and restoring diplomacy stability. We urge the parties to return to the negotiating table and to achieve a resolution of this crisis.
“The Prime Minister and I are regularly informed of new developments and we ensure that all the necessary resources are available to support Canada’s work to protect our citizens,” she added.
Several nearby United States allies have also noted the threat posed by Tehran nuclear, but urged a return to the negotiating table following strikes, which fueled the fears of a broader conflict. Some countries and groups of the Middle East, including those who support Iran, have condemned this decision while urging de-escalation.

Although the amount of damage is not clear, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the United States had “crossed a very great red line”. He also said that the time for diplomacy was over and that Iran had the right to defend itself.
Some have wondered if a weakened Iran could capitulate or remain provocative and would begin to strike allies to the American targets dispersed in the Gulf region.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said he was “seriously alarmed” by the use of force by the United States.
“There is an increasing risk that this conflict can quickly become uncontrollable-with catastrophic consequences for civilians, the region and the world,” he said in a press release on the social media platform X. “I call the Member States to defuse.”

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called Iran to return to the negotiating table to diplomatically end the crisis, saying that stability was priority in the volatile region.
The United Kingdom, as well as the European Union, France and Germany, tried in vain to negotiate a diplomatic solution with Iran in Geneva last week.
Starmer said the Iranian nuclear program has seriously threatened global security.
“Iran can never be authorized to develop a nuclear weapon and the United States has taken measures to mitigate this threat,” said Starmer.
Dmitry Medvedev, who is deputy chief of the Security Council of President Vladimir Putin, said that several countries were ready to provide Tehran with nuclear weapons.
He did not specify which countries, but said that the American attack had caused a minimum of damage and would not prevent Tehran from continuing nuclear weapons.
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that it “strongly condamed” the air strikes and described them as “blatant violation of international law, the United Nations Charter and Resolutions of the United Nations Security Council”.
The Iraqi government has condemned American strikes, saying that military climbing had created a serious threat to peace and security in the Middle East. He declared that he presents serious risks to regional stability and called for diplomatic efforts to defuse the crisis.
“The pursuit of these attacks risks a dangerous escalation with consequences that extend beyond the borders of any single state, threatening the security of the whole region and the world,” said government spokesperson Bassem al-Awadi in the statement.
In Rome, Pope Leo XIV made a strong appeal to peace during his Angelus Sunday prayer on Saint-Pierre square, calling for international diplomacy to “silence arms”.
After a reference open to the “alarming” situation in Iran, the first American pontiff stressed that “today more than ever, humanity shouts and invokes peace and it is a cry that requires reason and must not be suffocated”.
Pope Leo urged each member of the international community to assume his moral responsibility to “stop the war tragedy before it became an irreparable abyss”.
