Catherine, princess of Wales, was not in Royal Ascot on Wednesday, with a royal source citing her need for balance when she returns to public commitments after being treated for cancer last year.
Her husband, Prince William, heir to the throne, was part of the royal procession during the race on horseback in the south of England on Wednesday, alongside her father, King Charles and Queen Camilla.
The royal source said that Catherine was disappointed not to participate.
The princess gradually returned to her royal public role after having completed a preventive chemotherapy lesson last year to approach the presence of a form of unpertified cancer.
Royal Ascot, a series of five-day horse races, is the centerpiece of the summer social season in Great Britain, with members of the royal family who attend throughout the meeting.
Race fans had hoped to see Catherine on Wednesday, when Prince William was to award racing prices.
Tuesday, Charles and Camilla arrived at the head of the traditional transport procession in front of tens of thousands of racing lights.
The royal procession celebrates its 200th anniversary, with the tradition starting under the reign of King George IV in 1825 when the monarch was accompanied by the Duke of Wellington.
Writing in the official program of Royal Ascot, The King and Queen said: “Having experienced the thrill of victory to Royal Ascot ourselves in 2023, we cannot wish that all those who contributed this week good luck and that all those who look at have five most pleasant days.”
The late Queen Elizabeth was a passionate owner and a breeder of thoroughbred and had more than 20 winners of Royal Ascot during his 70-year reign.
Charles and Camilla took his stable of horses and appreciated their first winner of Royal Ascot in 2023, when the hero of the desert triumphed in the challenges King George V.
