The commissioners of the city of Miami, Florida, voted on Tuesday 3-2 to allow the police to work with immigration and the application of customs.
The city has concluded a 287 (G) partnership with ICE, which various cities use to help the federal application using different methods. It is a strong contrast with certain governments in the United States, especially in large citieswhich do not allow local or state authorities to help apply immigration laws.
“We appreciate our partnerships with the police forces of states and local, and the success of the 287 (G) program allows a multiplier of strength in the application of immigration laws,” said a spokesperson for the ICE in a press release. “This global approach allows laws of the application of laws to protect cities across the country against threats of public security and national security, and we encourage others across the country to join.”

In February, Gov. Ron Desantis has published an executive decree for the application of the law at the level of the state in order to create agreements with ice to help the expulsion efforts of the Trump administration.
“Florida gives the example of states in the fight against illegal immigration and work with the Trump administration to restore the rule of law”. Said Desantis at the time. “By allowing our state agents and law enforcement agents to be trained and approved by ice, Florida will now have more law enforcement staff to help federal partners.
However, there was an opposition to the conclusion of the agreement of certain residents and groups like the American Civil Liberties Union and the Florida Immigrant Coalition.

“It’s a shameful day for Miami,” said Dariel Gomez, state -of -scale organizer with the Florida aclu said in a press release. “With their vote, the commissioners have chosen the fear of the facts and the division of unity. This agreement will not make us safer – it will only spread fear and isolate the very people who make our city strong.”

“287 (g) does not belong to any city, but especially not in Miami – a place shaped by immigrants, built by immigrants and propelled by immigrants,” said Tessa Petit, executive director of Florida Immigrant Coalition, in a press release. “More than half of our residents were born abroad. The commissioners who voted to implement this ruthless program transformed their backs on the community even that they were put into office to protect. They transform our diversity into a target.”
However, the White House told Fox News Digital that the city’s decision was finally the right decision.

In April, a massive ice operation in collaboration with the Florida authorities led to the arrest of 1,120 illegal immigrants, and the agency said that 63% of them had “arrests or existing criminal convictions” and many had allegedly allegedly gang affiliations.
