Cole Palmer has yet to join up with England ahead of the World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia due to injury.

Palmer was named in Thomas Tuchel’s first squad on Friday but subsequently missed Chelsea’s Premier League defeat to Arsenal on Sunday after sustaining a muscle problem the day before the game.

The 22-year-old missed training with the Three Lions today although has not been officially withdrawn.

A short statement on the England website stated: “A senior squad of 26 players will be joined by MU21 trio Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Adam Wharton and Liam Delap for this afternoon’s training session at St. George’s Park.

“Cole Palmer remains with Chelsea for further assessment on an injury sustained in training ahead of his club’s fixture at Arsenal last Sunday.”

Maresca not Hopeful

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca said he didn’t think Palmer would be fit when asked about his availability after the game at the Emirates.

The Italian said: “I don’t think (he will be fit for England) to be honest.

“His injury is from yesterday’s session. It’s a muscular problem, the scan is planned for Monday morning.”

Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White was added to the squad on Sunday ahead of the Wembley doubleheader.
