Courtney Stodden Says She Considered Suicide After Being Cyberbullied

Courtney Stodden says she considered suicide after being cyberbullied as a teenager.

Stodden, now 30, appears in the ABC News documentary IMPACT x Nightline: Confessions of a Child Bridescheduled to stream Thursday, March 20, on Hulu.

In a YouTube clip from her interview with Nightline’s Juju ChangStodden addressed the negative treatment she received online following her 2011 wedding to Doug Hutchison, when he was 51 and she was just 16.

“I did actually almost succeed at committing suicide because (the cyberbullying) was a huge part of it. I had a suicide letter written,” she said. “I remember my last thought was, ‘You know, maybe I don’t deserve to be here when people that high up are telling me I don’t deserve to be.’”

Stodden was seemingly referencing past comments made by Chrissy Teigen via X, where in 2011 she allegedly told the model, “My Friday fantasy: you. dirt nap.”

“I know she’s saying that this was from alcohol or whatever she wanted to say it was from: Saying this to a child when you’re the queen of Twitter, it was so much,” Stodden said. (Us Weekly has reached out to Teigen for comment.)

Stodden, who divorced Hutchison in 2020, said that when she looks back on that difficult period in her life, she wants to “grab” her younger self and “give her a hug.”

Teigen’s tweets about Stodden resurfaced in 2021, prompting the influencer and wife of John Legend to issue a public apology.

“Not a lot of people are lucky enough to be held accountable for all their past bulls–t in front of the entire world. I’m mortified and sad at who I used to be. I was an insecure, attention seeking troll,” she wrote via X at the time. “I am ashamed and completely embarrassed at my behavior but that is nothing compared to how I made Courtney feel.”

Stodden previously told The Daily Beast that the cookbook author was among multiple celebrities who have sent her hurtful comments in the past.

“She wouldn’t just publicly tweet about wanting me to take ‘a dirt nap’ but would privately DM me and tell me to kill myself. Things like, ‘I can’t wait for you to die,’” Stodden said of Teigen. “Some of the worst treatment I got was from women, and we’re not going to get anywhere if we keep holding each other back.”
