Denmark clamps down on deepfakes by letting people copyright their own features

The Danish government endeavors to modify the law on copyright to give its citizens the right to their own body, to their own characteristic and their voice. The historical law is designed to strengthen protections against the creation and dissemination of Deepfakes, reports The guardian.

The Denmark Culture Department must still submit a proposal to modify the current law, but the agency has already obtained intermediate support.

“In the bill, we agree and send an unequivocal message that everyone has the right to their own body, their own voice and their own facial characteristics, which is apparently not how the current law protects people against generator,” said Jakob Engel-Schmidt, Minister of Danish Culture, Guardian.

In the United States, several states have adopted deep laws, which are mainly linked to misuse during elections and sexually explicit non-consensual content. Many of these laws are currently in danger because Congress weighs a proposal in a new bill on budget reconciliation which would eliminate the states of their power to regulate AI for 10 years.
