Disney and Universal continued the Midjourney generative AI platform for having allegedly formed its generating models and artistic edition on their content with permission.
Disney and Universal put legal action on Wednesday claiming that Midjourney ignored their previous requests stop violating their intellectual property rightsAccording to the Wall Street Journal. The prosecution, filed at the California central district court, includes dozens of examples of images generated by Midjourney who describe the characters protected by the copyright of the studio, such as Homer Simpson and Dark Vador.
The studios request monetary damages, a trial with jury and an order prohibiting the implementation of copyright. Midjourney did not immediately respond to the request for comments from Techcrunch.
Technological companies, of which OPENAI, were pressure for legal coverage to train on work accessible to the public, including the works protected by copyright, without having to ask the creators for authorization or to compensate them. As the Wall Street Journal notes, some movie and television studios have experienced generative AI technology, but in a relatively limited way.
