Ehsan Mani EXPOSES Shahid Afridi’s ‘personal agenda’ against Mohsin Naqvi
Former Pakistan chairman Ehsan Mani hit back at Shahid Afridi’s explosive remarks about the current situation of Pakistan cricket and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
Recently, Afridi claimed that current PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi admitted to not having any cricketing knowledge and compared Pakistan cricket to a critically ill patient in the ICU.
However, Ehsan Mani dismissed Afridi’s controversial remarks, calling them baseless. The former PCB chairman felt Afridi would have certainly had personal agendas behind this attack.

Mani made it clear that he doesn’t give credibility to such criticisms, refusing to make any comment on Afridi’s remarks. Ehsan Mani was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times, “I do not give any credibility to what Shahid Afridi or anyone else says.
“They have their personal agendas or whatever. So, I wouldn’t go there. No comment on that. All I would say is that leadership must come from the chairman and from the board of directors of PCB. For the rest, I don’t give much credibility to these criticisms.”
Ehsan Mani, who served as PCB chairman from 2018 to 2021, offered his perspective on the situation in the wake of heavy criticism following their group stage exit from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. They also failed to qualify for the semifinals in the 2023 ODI World Cup and 2024 T20 World Cup, struggling to deliver across the formats.
Ehsan Mani says Pakistan plays a lot of cricket, but very little quality cricket
Mani, who served as PCB chairman from 2018 to 2021, has raised concerns about Pakistan’s struggling system after their poor performances in major tournaments. With early exits in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the 2023 ODI World Cup, and the 2024 T20 World Cup, the former PCB chairman believes that there are deeper issues than just on-field failures.
He insisted that Pakistan has plenty of talent, but the lack of a strong cricketing structure is not helping them. Recalling his time as PCB chairman, Mani mentioned his efforts to introduce a new domestic format, but now he urged the board to take serious steps to rebuild the system.
Mani further said, “Look, there’s no shortage of talent in Pakistan. It’s a matter of just going back and rethinking how to take Pakistan or cricket forward. I had started the process by introducing a new format for first-class cricket and, in fact, for all forms of cricket in Pakistan, based on provincial teams. What we are having in Pakistan is a lot of cricket, but very little quality cricket.”
Mani calls for new structure for Pakistan cricket
He believes that Pakistan needs a competitive and modern setup to bring out the best in its players. Mani signed off by saying, “I think people have to go back to the point of ensuring that the basic structure of the game in Pakistan is fit for purpose and suitable for modern-day requirements.
Well, PCB needs to go back and look at the whole game structure in Pakistan. Make sure there’s high-quality, competitive cricket being played, which is not the case today in Pakistan.”
