Europe swelters in summer's first heatwave as continent warms

Southern Europeans prepared on Saturday for the first heat wave in the northern hemisphere, while climate change pushes thermometers on the fastest continent in the world in the red. Temperatures should increase to 37 degrees Celsius (99 Fahrenheit) in Rome, leading the many Catholic tourists and pilgrims from the Eternal City to the Vatican to the 2,500 public fountains of the Italian capital to cool off.
