According to the century in which you were born, you will recognize Sonic as the video game star of Sega Genesis from 1991 Sonic the Hedgehog, that is to say the star of paramount pictures’ Films Sonic The Hedgehog. (Or perhaps you know him of Smash Bros. or Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, or one of the countless other places where he presents himself.) Now he joins legendary magic: the gathering card game in a year when magic invests aggressively in multisgments with other properties.

These multisgments started years ago with The Walking Dead, which became an official magic series entitled Universes Beyond when he released a drop of secret lair for Stranger Things. We have obtained magic cards for everything, from Street Fighter to Lord of the Rings, The Evil Dead, Jurassic Park and even Spongebob. The Lord of the Rings was the first complete universes beyond the set, but he fixed the table for Final Fantasy last month, and we obtain complete sets for both Spider And Avatar: the last Airbender Later this year.

The New Sonic Magic: The gathering cards are different from the Final Fantasy ensemble of the game because they are Lair Secret products – drops with limited handle of a handful of cards, rather than a full set of hundreds of standard light cards. This means that you cannot build terraces for most tournament formats around Sonic. Like many Lair Secret crossing products, these cards seem to be intended for the format of an occasional multiplayer commander that allows you to build decks around your favorite characters and to play with a group of friends.

Sonic being a legendary creature with white mana, blue mana and red mana in its color identity, means that a sound commander bridge allows you to include its allies, its joints and Amy Rose in the bridge. The shadow costs red and black mana, which means that it does not enter a bridge of sound commander, but it would be integrated into a bridge in Dr Eggman.

And, gang, these cards are a bit wild. Whenever Sonic attacks, he puts growing counters on other creatures with Flash or Haste, which does not understand so coincidential all the aforementioned allies who hold in his deck. And Sonic having the capacity of a hurry itself means that he can attack the same turn as you launch it, practically guaranteeing activation. Tails can trace cards when flying vehicles enter – a nice wink to his plane, which presented itself for the first time in the late stages of Sonic The Hedgehog 2. Knuckles has a lot, including the possibility of creating tokens to the treasure that can help you launch spells – or simply win the game if you have enough while it is on the battlefield.

There is also a mechanical synergy between these cards and the new Final Fantasy cards. Amy Rose automatically attaches the team Limit the Commander Deck break Directed by Cloud (or TIFA), which cares about equipment and food statistics!

Likewise, Dr. Eggman can draw cards at the start of your final stage – if you also control Y’Shtola Rhul According to the MMO Final Fantasy XIV acclaimed by criticism, you get an additional end step, allowing you to draw two cards instead of the low cost to end your turn.

All of this is added to mechanically fun magic cards that featured a favorite character for life for me. And this will be added financially if I can get my hands on the Foil Sonic collection: Friends & Foes ($ 50) or the non-bone collection ($ 40), cards whose cards are less likely to deform compared to aluminum paper treatment.

There are two other drops of an announced secret lair, including one which focuses on reprinted artefacts such as vehicles and equipment and another which brings together existing cards that synergistic with new cards. Both will be available in aluminum paper versions of $ 40 or $ 30. All three Secret anthance The sets will be on sale on Monday July 14 at noon PT (9 a.m. HE).

When they do it, and I can’t insist enough, you have to go fast to do them.

Correction, June 30: This story has been modified to reflect the corrected prices of the Wizards of the Coast on the Sonic: Friends & Foes collection.
