George Foreman Dead: Boxing Champ Was 76

George Foreman has died, his family confirmed. He was 76.

The heavyweight boxing champion’s family confirmed Foreman’s death via an Instagram post shared on Friday, March 21.

“Our hearts are broken. With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr. who peacefully departed on March 21, 2025 surrounded by loved ones,” the post reads. “A devout preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grand and great grandfather, he lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility, and purpose.”

The post continued: “A humanitarian, an Olympian, and two time heavyweight champion of the world, He was deeply respected — a force for good, a man of discipline, conviction, and a protector of his legacy, fighting tirelessly to preserve his good name— for his family.

Foreman’s family thanked fans and followers for their support during the difficult time.

“We are grateful for the outpouring of love and prayers, and kindly ask for privacy as we honor the extraordinary life of a man we were blessed to call our own.

Foreman, who was a heavyweight boxer from 1969 to 1997 had 12 children: five sons and seven daughters, two of whom he adopted in recent years. All of his sons are named George “so they would always have something in common,” as he once said. His daughter Freeda Foreman died in 2019 at the age of 42.

The Olympic gold medalist had an illustrious sporting career and nabbed the world heavyweight title in 1973 after winning against rival Joe Frazierwho was undefeated at the time.

He famously faced off against Muhammad Ali in the notorious ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ in 1974 and suffered his first professional defeat.

Following his sporting career, Foreman became an entrepreneur, earning millions from his George Foreman Grill.

Tributes have already begun to flood in for the boxing champion following the news of his passing.

Boxing star Mike Tyson wrote via X: “Condolences to George Foreman’s family. His contribution to boxing and beyond will never be forgotten.”

“Rest in peace, George Foreman. Your legacy lives on, champ. 🕊️” NBA star Scottie Pippen wrote via X.

President of the World Boxing Council, Mauricio Sulaiman, also shared his sadness over Foreman’s death via the social media platform.

“Receiving sad news is a moment that sticks to your memory for life The great George Foreman has passed away Legendary boxing champion, life changing preacher, Husband, father, grand and great grandfather and the best friend you could have. His memory is now eternal, may Big George rest in peace,” he wrote.
