If you reach a point where progress has exceeded the possibility of making the systems safe, would you take a break?
I do not think that today’s systems pose an existential risk, so it is always theoretical. Geopolitical questions could actually end up being more difficult. But has given enough time and enough care and reflection, and using the scientific method …
If the delay is as tight as you say, we do not have much time for care and reflection.
We don’t do it have a lot of time. We are increasingly putting resources in security and things like Cyber and also are looking for, you know, controlling and understanding these systems, sometimes called mechanistic interpretability. And then at the same time, we must also have societal debates on institutional construction. How do we want governance to work? How are we going to get an international agreement, at least on certain basic principles on how these systems are used and deployed and also built?
How much do you think that AI will change or eliminate people’s jobs?
What is generally tended to occur is that new jobs are created that use new tools or technologies and are in fact better. We will see if it is different this time, but for the next few years, we will have these incredible tools that overeat our productivity and we will make almost a little superhuman.
If AGE can do whatever humans can do, it seems that it could also make new jobs.
There are a lot of things we don’t want to do with a machine. A doctor could be helped by an AI tool, or you may even have a type of AI doctor. But you would not want a robot nurse – there is something about the human empathy aspect of these care which is particularly humanist.
Tell me what you are considering when you look at our future in 20 years and, according to your prediction, is it everywhere?
If everything is going well, then we must be in a radical era of abundance, a kind of golden era. AGE can solve what I call problems of root knots in the world – in force of terrible diseases, a much healthier and longer lifespan, finding new energy sources. If everything happens, then it should be an era of maximum human flourishing, where we go to the stars and colonions the galaxy. I think it will start to happen in 2030.
I am skeptical. We have an incredible abundance in the Western world, but we do not distribute it fairly. Regarding the resolution of major problems, we do not need answers as much as resolution. We don’t need an act to tell us how to repair climate change – we know how. But we don’t do it.
I agree with that. We were, as a species, a company, not good to collaborate. Our natural habitats are destroyed, and it is partly because it would force people to make sacrifices, and people do not want it. But this radical abundance of AI will make things feel like a game with a non -zero sum –
Would act change human behavior?
Yeah. Let me give you a very simple example. Access to water is going to be a huge problem, but we have a solution – disalivation. It costs a lot of energy, but if there was renewable, free and clean energy [because AI came up with it] From the merger, then suddenly, you solve the problem of access to water. Suddenly, it is no longer a zero -sum game.
