Greece v Scotland – Line-ups, stats and preview
Scotland are looking to preserve their place in the top tier of the Nations League when they take on Greece in the first leg of their promotion/relegation play-off on Thursday.
Steve Clarke’s Tartan Army are intent on making a splash at the top level of international football after reaching the last two European Championships, but will need to remain in League A if they are to preserve their reputation ahead of the World Cup qualifiers.
Until the final three games of their campaign, the Scots looked set for an immediate return to the second tier after losing each of their first five games.
But after picking up their first point in a goalless draw with Portugal in October, midfielder John McGinn inspired wins over Croatia and Poland to secure third spot in A1.
Greece also have aims of making it to the top tier for the first time though after they were unfortunate to finish as runners-up in League B2, having matched England’s record of five wins and one defeat.
That even incluced an impressive win over the Three Lions at Wembley and having won six of their last seven in all competitions, they will be in confident when they welcome the Scots.

Young starlet Ben Doak will miss out on both legs due to a serious thigh injury but Clarke has been able to recall Che Adams and Lewis Ferguson, the latter of which sat out Euro 2024.
Lawrence Shankland has lost his place in the senior side to youngster James Wilson, while Lennon Miller and George Hirst have earned their first call-ups.
Vangelis Pavlidis will spearheard Greece’s attack after scoring 20 goals in all competitions for Benfica this season and will be surpported by Club Brugge attacker Christos Tzolis, who has been a regular in the Champions League this season.
🏴 Steve Clarke has named his first Scotland squad of the year, as we prepare to face Greece next week.

The game kicks off at 7.45pm UK time and is available to watch on BBC Scotland.
This should prove a tough tie for Scotland over two legs and a win away from home in the first leg looks like a tall order.
We are expecting a close-fought draw, leaving it all to play for in the second leg.
