I also really believe that when people are rude with you, that says more about them than you. Sometimes I simply answer Troll’s comments with: “U ok ??” Because honestly, that’s what I wonder. “Thank you for the commitment, have an incredible day!” is another favorite, just to give people a reality verification. I understand and completely support the way some creators have strict blocking criteria, but I very rarely block people, because I am honestly fascinated by the operation of other people.

Are you a troll?

I consider my online commitment as a form of social currency, so I prefer to pass my tastes, comments and sharing on the content that I like and that I maintain rather than wasting time stimulating the content with which I do not agree. There are also so many scientists or people adjacent to the sciences who have gained popularity by being assholes, and I simply do not want to be part of this elitist culture.

It seems that people who publish on r / unpopularopinion are all trolls. How do you moderate this?

The Subreddit deals with a decent quantity of trolls, but most of them are quite low. The classics like “I think Hitler was right” and xenophobic, racist or otherwise ridiculous similar messages are generally picked up by our autofilter, but sometimes more creative. Bless messages like that don’t bother me, although leaving a first page for a while generally leads to an influx more in the future.

I generally learned that it was not worth continuing an answer. I receive a lot of messages per day of people who are bored that their shitposts are not approved. Each troll thinks they are God’s gift to the Internet, when there is really nothing to distinguish them from thousands of other trolls.

What are the strategies to deal with with online shitposters?

As a rule, I ignore them. It is not worth being upset by things on a (mainly) anonymous forum. I appreciate a little jokes in the back and forth in some of the smallest subsections that I frequent! If I took time of my day to answer or read all the messages of hatred that I received, I would be a very busy person.

Are you a troll or a shitposter?

I do not necessarily think that I am a troll, even if I like to play the devil’s lawyer (probably why I started r / unpopularopinion in the first place). Certainly take advantage of shit, however, as long as it is not too serious.
