Humiliation for Rohit Sharma as he falls for duck in IPL 2025, creates embarrassing record

The superstar Mumbai Indians (MI) batsman Rohit Sharma failed miserably in his team’s Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) opening match against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Rohit Sharma got out without troubling the scorers against the Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai on Sunday, March 23.

Rohit Sharma hits new low in IPL

Expectations were sky-high from Rohit Sharma as he entered the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 after leading Team India to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 triumph.

However, Rohit disappointed his fans and walked back to the dugout on the fourth ball of the first over itself. The 27-year-old left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed, who is CSK’s new recruit, picked the wicket of the former Mumbai Indians skipper.

He bowled a 139.8 kmph inswinger on a good length on the pads to Rohit, who looked to flick it through the leg side but was a bit early into the shot and ended up chipping it straight to mid-wicket where Shivam Dube took a simple catch.

Notably, Rohit has always struggled against the left-arm pacers and his record against Khaleel Ahmed in the Indian Premier League is very poor as well.

Overall, Rohit and Khaleel have been against each other in 7 innings and the batter has managed to score just 28 runs against the seamer while being dismissed three times. Rohit has scored his runs at an average of 9.33 and a strike rate of 65.11 against Khaleel.

Also, the batting superstar hit a new low in the Indian Premier League as the duck against CSK was his 18th in the league, which is the joint-most.

Other players with the same number of ducks as Rohit are Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik. The next two players on the unwanted list are Piyush Chawla and Sunil Narine with 16 ducks each to their name.

The former Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma spoke to the host broadcasters ahead of the match against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and said that they would be looking to win their first match of the season.

Rohit further said that they are aware of the fact that they have not won the first game of the season since 2012 and would be aiming to end that drought.

“Well we will try to win the first match. We have come close a few times but it hasn’t happened in many years. The end goal matters more for us. Everyone has a goal for themselves,” he said.

“We know that we have not won the first game of the tournament for a long long time. We always have a chat with the boys. It’s better to focus on our game and play according to the situation of the game.”
