Iran has strongly criticized US President Donald Trump Traveling prohibition On his nationals and those of several countries, calling him “racist” and a sign of deeply rooted hostility towards the Iranians and Muslims.
Trump earlier this week signed a decree This bars and restricts travelers from 19 countries, including several African nations and the Middle East.
The policy, which is expected to come into force on Monday, echoes the measures introduced during Trump’s previous mandate depending on 2017 to 2021. In the decree, Trump said that it “should act to protect national security” from the United States.
Alireza Hashemi-Raja, who heads the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iranians abroad, said on Saturday that the decision reveals “the domination of a supremacist and racist mentality among American decision-makers”.
“This measure indicates the deep hostility of American decision-makers towards the Iranian and Muslim people,” he said in a statement.
The latest restrictions cover nationals of Iran, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. A limited ban has also been applied to travelers in seven other countries.
Hashemi-Raja argued that the policy breaks international legal standards and denies millions of people the fundamental right to travel, based solely on nationality or faith. He declared that the ban “would imply international responsibility of the American government”, without developing.
The United States and Iran have had no formal diplomatic relationship since 1980, according to the Islamic Revolution.
Despite decades of tense ties, the United States remains at the Maison de la greatest Iranian diaspora in the world, with around 1.5 million Iranians who lived there in 2020, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tehran.
