The pirate linked to Israel group known as Sparrow predator has achieved some of the most disturbing and destructive cyber attacks in history, twice deactivating thousands of service station’s payment systems through Iran and once even putting an aciéry in the country on fire. Now, in the midst of a new war which takes place between the two countries, they seem determined to burn the financial system of Iran.
The predator Sparrow, which often bears his name Farsi, Gonjeshke Darande, in order to appear as a local hacktivist organization, announced on Wednesday on his account that he had targeted the violations of Iranian and terrorist sanctions in the end of the Iranian regime. According to the elliptical cryptocurrency tracing company, the pirates destroyed more than $ 90 million In Nobitex Holdings, a rare example of pirates burning cryptographic assets rather than stealing them.
“These cyber attacks are the result of Nobitex being a key diet tool to finance terrorism and rape the sanctions”, the pirates have been published on X. “Association with terrorism funding and infrastructure of violation of the regime sanctions puts your assets in danger.”
The incident follows on Wednesday another predatory attack by Sparrow against the Iranian financing system, in which the same group has targeted the Iranian SEPAH bank, claiming to have destroyed “all” the data of the bank in retaliation for its associations with the bodies of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard, and displaying documents which seemed to show agreements between the bank and the IRANE military. “Watch out: associate with the regime’s instruments to escape sanctions and finance its ballistic missiles and its nuclear program is bad for your long -term financial health,” the pirates wrote. “Who is the next one?”
The SEPAH Bank website was Offline yesterday But seemed to work again today. The bank did not respond to the request for Wired comments. The Nobitex website was offline today and the company could not be attached to comment.
As it is often in the case in the fog of a war which takes place and its cyber attacks which accompany it, which performs predatory Sparrowt attacks. But Hamid Kashfi, an Iranian cybersecurity researcher living in Sweden and founder of the Darkcell cybersecurity firm, says that he had heard contacts in Iran that online banks in SEPAH and automatic ticket distributors have been offline since the start of attacks, which has disrupted the capacity of civilians to access funds. “There has been a lot of collateral damage,” says Kashfi. “It just seems to be causing damage and chaos. I cannot think of what other logic would be behind her. Yes, they provide services to the military. But they do it for millions of joys and regular civilians. ”
In Nobitex’s attack, the blockchain analysis reveals some of the details of the Sabarrow predatory sabotage: according to Elliptic, the eight -digit sum of the exchange has been transferred to a series of cryptographic addresses which all started with variations on the “fuckirgterrorist” phrase. These so-called “vanity” addresses cannot generally be created in a way that offers the control or recovery of the funds held there, therefore elliptical concludes that the displacement of the funds to these addresses was rather a sharp method to destroy money. “Pirates clearly have political motivations rather than financial,” explains Tom Robinson, co -founder of elliptical. “The crypto they stolen was actually burned.”
