Strikes are involved while President Trump said on Friday that there could be a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas in next week.
“I think it’s close,” Trump told journalists in the oval office when he asked him about the prospect of a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip. “We think that in next week, we are going to get a ceasefire.”
Israel and Hamas have not publicly commented on the state of any potential agreement.
The Trump administration was pressure for a break in the fighting since Trump returned to the White House in January. However, an agreement has proven to be elusive so far. The talks have been running again, since Israel broke the last cease-fire in March, continuing its military campaign in Gaza and causing the casualness of the Strip’s humanitarian crisis.
At the end of last month, the Middle East envoy of Trump Steve Witkoff offered a 60-day ceasefire. Under this proposal, Hamas would release 10 living hostages and the remains of 18 dead hostages which were taken to Gaza during the attack on Hamas in 2023 against Israel, according to a copy obtained by CBS News. Israel would release 125 prisoners “perpetuity”, 1,111 Palestinian prisoners and 180 Palestinians who died within the framework of the agreement.

Israel supported this proposal, but Hamas said He replied with “a few notes and modifications”. Witkoff called the “totally unacceptable” Hamas response in A position of May 31 on X.
A situation official told AP that the Israeli Minister for Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer will arrive in Washington next week for interviews on the ceasefire in Gaza, Iran and other subjects. The manager spoke under the cover of anonymity because they were not allowed to speak to the media.
About fifty hostages remain in Gaza, less than half of them still believed alive. They were part of some 250 hostages taken when Hamas terrorists attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, causing the 21 -month war.
War killed more than 56,000 PalestiniansAccording to the Ministry of Health managed by Gaza, which does not distinguish between civilians and combatants. He says that more than half of the dead were women and children.
There is hope among the hostage families that Trump’s involvement in securing the recent ceasefire between Israel and Iran could exert more pressure for an agreement in Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu occurs a wave of public support for the Iran’s war and its achievements, And he could feel that he had more space to move towards the end of the war in Gaza, something that his far -right governance partners oppose.
Hamas has repeatedly said that it was ready to release all hostages in exchange for an end of the war in Gaza. Netanyahu says that he will not finish war until Hamas is disarmed and exiled, which the group has rejected.
