Karen Read’s The defense described the expert whether it was his last witness as his trial in the death of the cop of Boston John O’Keefe, who began in April, is approaching.
Prosecutors allege that reading, after an evening, struck O’Keefe on the contrary with his Lexus and let him die in front of a party at home during a record blizzard on January 29, 2022.
Dr. Andrew Rentschler briefly testified on Tuesday afternoon and is expected to come back to the stand for at least half a day on Wednesday before the defense rest.

He is the second witness to the Crash Arcca reconstruction company, which is now working for defense but had been preserved by the federal government before the first lawsuit of Read, which ended with a jury in the deadlock.
Earlier in the new trial, his colleague Dr Daniel Wolfe testified that damage to the clothes of O’Keefe and the SUV of Read were incompatible with a collision between a Lexus LX 570 2021 and a pedestrian.
Rentschler is a biomechanist, an expert on how the physics and engineering forces apply to the human body.

“A mechanical engineer, for example, could look at a piece of steel and the dimensions and size of the steel. If you apply a force in a certain direction with a certain magnitude, this steel will fold, and finally he will break,” he explained.
“As a biomechanist, a biomechanical engineer, I do the same thing, but I look at the human body. How much force must be applied, in which direction, to obtain a specific type of injury.”
Rentschler testified that a 15 MPH collision between the head of a crash model and a rear light like Read would not have caused a fracture of the skull. Experts from both parties previously said that his fatal injury seems consistent with a rear fall – although the Defense Legalist Dr Elizabeth Laposata Said in his opinion, he landed on something “rigid” with a grainy texture – not the lawn before where it was found.

Rentschler joined Laposata and another witness to discharge, Dr. Marie Russell, of the opinion that the scratches and cuts of the arm of O’Keefe were not caused by an impact with the rear light. Defense theory is that they were inflicted by a dog bite.
Read told journalists on Tuesday that she would not testify for her own defense – and that Renstchler is the last witness that his team plans to call.
“This is the right decision,” said Grace Edwards, a Massachusetts lawyer which closely follows the case. “This is the only decision of the defendant to take a stand. In this case, Karen should resist a rigorous counterfeitment by Brennan, who would include documentary clips and any other proof that they have that we do not know other statements.”

She should also face questions about her alcohol consumption, said Edwards, which could break “the ascending momentum” of her defense, as expert witnesses have repeatedly contradicted the statements of prosecutors.
